Pretty. Fast enough for many. NOT for NVMe SSDs.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Housekeeping: IMPORTANT NOTE - Not the fault of the dock, but as of the time of this review, none of the SSD drives sold by Best Buy are compatible with this Dock. The dock only accepts 2280 SATA SSDs, and is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH NVMe SSDs. I stress this because Best Buy support stated that it was compatible, and we went through the annoyance of purchase and set-up only to find that the set-up was non-functioning. Now on to the Review... - Dock is aesthetically near-perfect for M1 or M2 aluminum finished Mac Mini. Fit, finish, and build quality is truly spot-on. Love it. - Horizontal form factor is quite pleasing as long as you have the desk space. If not, look to other manufacturer's vertical dock options. - Please note: front USB ports are not for charging devices per the manufacturer and are (obviously, given that the unit's whole connection is 5 Gbps) not thunderbolt or for video output. - Performance is slower than many other options (5 Gbps), but that's fine if you are OK with that and are prioritizing the form factor. Unfortunately, no true thunderbolt docks are available at this time, so you are really comparing to other dock options offering 10 Gbps. Personally, given that the above reduced the dock to a very pretty SD Card port for our purposes, we decided to go with a slightly faster (10Gbps) NVMe-compatible vertical dock with similar ports AND a separate high-speed enclosure with a higher-capacity NVMe SSD for lightning-fast storage (both from another vendor). Our main rational behind ordering this initially was to put the whole set-up under our TotalCare+ tech support, but--unfortunately--that proved to be a waste of time given the bad advice from Best Buy on compatibility.

the perfect Mac mini/studio accessory
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.got this for my M2 mini and it's just perfect! Downsized from a 2020 iMac and lost some ports. This hub gave me all those ports plus more. The SSD enclosure is a welcomed bonus as well.

Nice Features
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The dock even without the ability to use as an external hard drive gave me extra usb ports and my card reader slot back that the new Mac Mini has removed. The hard drive for this was not the easiest to find, it will work only with an M2 2280 drive, it will not work with NVMe drives.

SSD storage is dated, SATA not NVMe
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dated, only supports SATA drives not NVMe drives which are most of the market. Too bad because the design and fit & finish were very good.

Outstanding
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly this hub is magnificent because without it the m2 mini is lacking in power and functionality. I can’t wait to see what the hub and and Mac Studio can accomplish to gather. 10/10

||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great rock for Mac mini, bought the 1tb of extra storage that fits in dock for lots of extra storage and backup space, but most of all lots of extra ports for accessories

Q: QuestionCan I connect and use an external optical drive to this device?
Asked by FlashJeff59.
- A:Answer I have an HP dvd r/w external data--no problems at all.

Q: QuestionThe specs show it supports M.2 SSDs, does this mean that it will support the M.2 2280 SSDs as well?
Asked by Doug.
- A:Answer The enclosure supports 2280 SATA SSDs but NOT 2280 NVMe SSDs. This is important to note as (at the time of this answer) Best Buy does not have any 2280 SATA SSDs for sale and--unfortunately--provided us bad advice that the NVMe SSDs carried by Best Buy would be compatible (which they are not). Should work quite well with the 2280 SATA SSDs carried elsewhere.

Q: QuestionWill this work with M2 mini Mac? If so, will there be full functionality, or will it be limited? Thank you.
Asked by FredH.
- A:Answer This plugs in by USB-C so all features would work on any USB-C capable Mac. As for matching up with the M2 Mini, the M2 mini is the same size, design and port selection as the M1 mini. This product also works great for the Mac Studio, Mac Studio has the same design and footprint as the M1/M2 mini, it is just taller. This product was designed extremely well for the Mini and Studio series and looks like a part of the Mac.

- A:Answer Hi Dan, We appreciate your interest in our products. Unfortunately, the Stand&hub for the Mac Mini (with SSD Enclosure) does not support the 2018 & earlier Mac Mini models. We hope this helps.

Q: QuestionWill this hub work with the new Mac Mini M2? And is there another hub that does not have the SSD enclosure that is cheaper by Satechi?
Asked by Stephan.
- A:Answer Yes, I have this exact model, used w/a 2023 M2 Pro MacMini which I bought for ~$99, and they do make a different model (w/o the M.2 SSD bay) for around ~$75, I believe.
