A: I had the same problem, I got the book out and realized there are a lot of places to take it apart and clean it, it was shutting off because it was clotted. I took it apart, cleaned it out and it is working great.

Amazing 2 in 1 vacuum
It was time for me to get a new vacuum and was searching for the perfect replacement. I have been using the shark brand for years due to it being a reputable and reliable brand. I chose to give the Shark Ion X40 a go and I am glad that i did. There is a lot to like about this 2 in 1 vacuum. :::Pros::: - Lightweight - Cordless - Battery powered (batteries are user replaceable) - Compact design - 2 in 1 design (both hand vac & floor vac) - Large variety or attachments & parts :::Cons::: - Small waste canister The X40 is a modern take on what a vacuum should be. I only recently became aware of the 2 in 1 design. I was using the traditional no frills hand vacuums that you disposed of and replaced due to not having user replaceable parts like the battery. As I stated earlier this 2 in 1 is great because it works on both hard floor and carpet. I have a combination of shag carpet and tied floors at my residence. I found that the floor vacuum performed well and had plenty of suction on a full battery charge. The hand vacuum performs well and really gets in those places where the hand vacuum can't reach. It is lightweight and compact and easy to store in a closet as it does not take up much space. The had vac conveniently docks on the floor vac itself and whomever thought of that is a genius i love not having to drill a hand vac dock onto my bedroom wall like with my previous hand vac. The hand vac really shines due to its portability and practicality. It can be used in a number of paces due to not having to rely on a power source. I tested it out on my car and boy was i impressed. It is much better than the cheap hand vacs meant for cars. Batteries and attachments are sold on the official website. The battery took around 3 hours to charge and it has a battery light indicator to let you know roughly how much battery you have left. All of this is a plus in my book because not having to buy a new vacuum every few years is awesome. Extended batteries are sold and you can purchase multiple batteries depending on heavily you use your vacuum. I will buy other attachments and a battery or two soon. :::TL;DR::: The Shark Ion X40 is a great vacuum at a good price and is a great value. It is portable 2 in 1 vacuum that is compact and has user replaceable parts that ensure you own it for years and not have to buy another every couple of years.

Excellent for quick clean-ups
We'd wanted a small stick vacuum for little messes and the Shark X40 fit the bill. There are 2 suction power levels, regular and Ion Boost. Regular feels a bit weak but in Ion Boost mode, the X40 picked up everything we ran it over. Ion Boost can be run in 1 minute intervals or continuously. Battery life is supposed to be 30 minutes but I would guess we get 10-15 continuous run time on Ion Boost mode which is more than enough for our intended use. The website description states a 40 minute charge time but in the instruction book included with the X40 it says 3.5 hours for full charge. That's quite a discrepancy. Our initial charge time from a brand-new, out-of-the-box, partially-charged battery was a little over 2 hours. As for the main vacuum head, the soft brushroll in the front does an excellent job of getting dust off hardwood and in Ion Boost mode the carpet setting did an admirable job on both long and short pile rugs. It's not a substitute for a larger, more powerful vacuum but it's easy to store and very light to maneuver, making it ideal for small jobs. Speaking of storing, my one BIG complaint is that the X40 will NOT stand up by itself. With the suction motor attached, the unit is top-heavy and will fall backward Every-Single-Time you let go. Having to lean it against the wall or a piece of furniture to move something out of the way or pick a toy off the floor is a huge inconvenience. Additionally, the highest part of the machine off the floor is also the heaviest part and contains all the more sensitive components; motor, dust bin, battery and controls. When it tips, that part is going to hit the floor. Hard. We have not let it hit the floor yet but there have been a couple close calls, especially with the kids using it. Good thing it has an 8 year warranty. I have dealt with Shark's warranty department to resolve an issue with another of their vacuums and I can say that their service was top-notch so that's a plus. To safely store the X40, the power plant has to be removed from the wand and hangs on a hook just above the main cleaning head. I considered 3 stars for the tipsy nature of this design but I am very pleased with the X40's cleaning performance and it warrants 5 stars for that aspect. So with 5 stars for performance and 3 stars for design, the X40 is a solid 4 star product as long as you hold on.
