FAQ

Check your Fios router’s WiFi standard, frequency bands, and security settings against the extender’s specifications. Many third-party extenders connect using standard WiFi protocols, but Verizon-specific mesh features may require compatible Verizon equipment.

Setup typically involves connecting to the extender through its app or web interface, selecting your Fios router’s WiFi network, and entering the WiFi password. Some routers and extenders also support WPS pairing. Follow the setup process provided by the extender’s manufacturer.

Many extenders let you use the same network name, also called an SSID, and password as your Fios router. Others create a separate network name or give you a choice during setup. Matching network names does not automatically make the router and extender a coordinated mesh system.

Repeater mode connects the extender to your Fios router wirelessly. Access point mode uses an Ethernet connection to the router or local network and provides a WiFi connection for devices. Not every extender supports access point mode, so check its listed operating modes.

Dual-band extenders typically include 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios. Tri-band models add another radio, commonly a second 5 GHz radio or a 6 GHz radio. The bands available for use depend on the extender, your router, and your connected devices.
