  • General
    • Product Name: Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Camera with 16-50mm and 55-210mm Lens Kit
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: ILCE6000YCS/B
    • Color: Black
    • Product Set: w/ 16-50mm & 55-210mm Lenses
    • Digital Camera Type: Mirrorless Camera Body Only
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 6000 x 4000 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: None (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/4000 - 30 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: 3.5 f/ (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: 5.6 f/ (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)
    • Maximum ISO: 25600 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. In low-light environments, using a higher ISO setting helps to capture a sharp, bright image.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Shooting Modes: None (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, incandescent, fluorescent and more (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
  • Lens
    • Minimum Focal Length: 16 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 50 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Auto (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
    • External Flash Mount: Other (A cold shoe is a mounting point on top of a camera to securely attach a flash unit or other compatible accessories. A hot shoe is a cold shoe with an electrical connection that insures communication and synchronization between camera and accessory.)
  • Display
    • Display Type: Other
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Touch Screen: false (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
  • Compatibility
    • Tripod/Monopod Mountable: Yes (A support function that allows the device to be mounted to monopods and tripods for leveling and stability.)
    • Memory Card Compatibility: Memory Stick PRO Duo (The type of memory card(s) recommended for use with the product.)
  • Features
    • Face Detection: true (A function that automatically detects human faces and then sets focus and appropriate exposure to capture them.)

Q: how much for a flash, is there package that includes flash

A: Do your research on the Best Buy site and compare with other sites. Be a well informed consumer, not a lazy one. Always good to take the time to go in the store and see and feel just what you are looking to purchase. This Sony has a great built in pop up flash.

Q: How durable is the camera?

A: Hi John, the camera is neither shockproof, waterproof or splashproof. Thanks_Mitch

Q: Echoing the other guys?

A: Hi Jon, Base on the model number indicated, ILCE6000Y comes with two lenses which are the SELP1650 and SEL55210. thanks - Zander

Q: Can the battery be recharged in a foreign country with 240 v without a voltage converter?

A: Hi! Yes,the supplied AC adaptor is compatible with 100 V – 240 V, 50 Hz/60 Hz input voltage. -Anthony

Q: Does the sony a6000 have a built in mic?

A: Yes, there are 2 tiny microphones built into the front of the camera at the 1 and 11 o'clock positions above the lens (if you are looking at the front of the camera). If you plan to use the camera for a lot of video, I would get the wireless microphone accessory but the built in mic was adequate for my casual video use.

Q: Can the battery be recharged? How to do it?

A: I bought the Sony A6000 about 6 months ago and LOVE IT!!!!! Light, great, quick follow focus. Biggest complaint was how quickly battery wore down. Yes, it's rechargeable with the cord that links camera body to recharger, but I found I could only shoot sports (high school tennis match, soccer) an hour or two before battery was nearly dead. So I bought a second battery (nearly $50) and then found that Sony makes a separate recharger -- Bower - Battery Charger for Sony NP-FW50 - Black Model: CH-G107SKU: 4290770 -- for $20 -- and those are terrific!

Q: Lens and body cap?

A: Yes, this product includes the lens and caps.

Q: I am looking for a camera mostly for action shots of sporting events. Has anyone used this camera for that type of event?

A: I can tell you that it is a wicked fast camera that takes up to 11 shots per second, and the stabilization is phenomenal. You should have no problems using this at a sporting event. Good luck.
