Q: Can this be used with a regular hdmi cable to hook my iPhone to my tv?
A: No, this is only a micro USB to Lightning. It could only be used for plugging in a Micro USB cord (Android, Kindle) into an Apple Iphone or Ipad.
A: Now and then I get that message from using even my Apple Certified cables. In the two years I have used mine, I never received that message while using this adapter. Also think about the power source you are using. I used mine with an actual 12w ipad power block from my older 4th generation Ipad.
