This is a pleasant overview and review of a dozen great J.J. Cale songs. There is a plethora of great guitar players doing their best to imitate the late, great J.J. Cale. It's very tasteful and very listenable. The one and only problem is that it simply is not The Man, and none of these great renditions are as good as the authentic thing. I'm sorry, Mr. Clapton, et. al., but it's true. For completists, yes, it's good. (Or for huge Clapton fans, and John Mayer fans, etc.) For everyone else, I suggest anything by J.J. himself. Any compendium or anthology will do, especially that 2 CD set. Even the live ones are great. A few of my favorites from J.J.'s original catalogue are Naturally, Okie, Lies, "5" and Grasshopper. But like I said, you can't go wrong by anything with J.J. himself. Enjoy!

Clapton has obviously been a great admirer of JJ Cale and his songwriting for many years, starting way back with his cover of After Midnight and others, including one of his best known songs, Cocaine. It's no surprise he would be the man to put together a tribute album to mourn the great man's passing, and that he would be able to put together such a great collection of fellow musicians to help. His songs have been covered by dozens of artists for years, and you probably be surprised by how familiar so many of his songs will be to you. . If you like what you hear on this album, I would encourage you to start hunting some of them down. There is NO SUCH thing as a "bad " JJ Cale album!

The best and most genuine tribute possible to the late great music God, JJ Cale, by several of his more famous "disciples". The brainchild of the ever-generous and humble Eric Clapton, this album aims to introduce the casual listeners and fans of EC himself and the featured artists to the music and unique sound of one of his own greatest influences, and the author of some of his best-known hits. The A-list of guitarists here clearly each brought his own A-game to the record, checking his ego at the door. A genuine homage to Mr. Cale's unique style, an affirmation of his status as "a musician's musician", and best of all, proof that his musical legacy is timeless and lives on brightly!

Fantastic music of JJ Cale by Eric Clapton and many other friends of JJ's. As an avid follower of both JJ and Eric, and knowing both have been life long friends, these tow were meant to meet and play and record live together for many years… Best seen together during sessions of Eric's now famous "Crossroads Guitar Concerts" in Chicago, it all brings sweetness to your ears! "Breeze". thought by many to be from Lynard Skynard's collections, and they would be correct as it pertains to a "cover recording", but written and first performed and recorded by JJ Cale, just as "Cocaine" was by Eric Clapton, this too was written and first recorded by JJ Cale, only Eric made it famous.

Slowhand enjoyed putting this one together....one can tell: Clapton comes through again in true form; he brings in his pals Tom Petty,.John Mayer, Willie Nelson & Mark Knopfler to cover JJ Cale's great works and "easy rolling" cadence ..... The rocker "Rock & Roll Records" ?...yep...JJ Cale wrote that one too. Grateful to the successes of "Cocaine" & "After Midnight", Clapton covers such JJ Cale gems as "Magnolia"...one can just feel the warm :sweet summer breezes" gently caressing the magnolia trees.... long live JJ Cale's memory ...just "Call Him the Breeze"

JJ Cale was a musician's musician--not well known to the general public, but the composer of songs such as 'After Midnight' and 'Cocaine'.Of course, these songs were made famous by Eric Clapton, the moving force behind this tribute to Cale, who passed away last year. Clapton has gathered a stellar group of musicians for this effort-Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler and Willie Nelson all perform on the album. The songs are performed in sort of a laid-back shuffle that perfectly represents Cale's style. I really enjoy this album and can recommend it without reservation.

This jumps right to the top of my favorite CD's of 2014. Clapton leads a super group of stars, including Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, and John Mayer. Don't look for hard rock or long guitar solos, just great songs played well. They avoid playing the Cale songs you've heard a million times (other than the title track) instead focusing on lesser-known but just as great songs from JJ Cale, who we sadly lost last year.

Since I am from the great state of Oklahoma. I have had the opporunity to see J.J. Cale perform many times around this part of the and country and ALWAYS ENJOYED HIS MUSIC. I was glad someone like Eric Claton would take the time to put the tribute together, I really wish that Leon Russll could have been a part of the tribute, because he and J.J. Cale played together many, many, times.
