Golden Compass is overall a Good Fantasy Adventure Movie, with quite good acting. It is almost but not quite a Family Friendly film with the plot following the young girl Lyra and her various adventures discovering the truth about Dust with a capital D, with her Daemon Pantalaimon at her side and with the aid of the Golden Compass. A journey that takes you throughout her imaginative world, where the souls of every person manifest as talking animal familiars (Daemons), vehicles run on something other than electricity, and there are long-lived witches and gruff warrior polar bears to ally with. However, the movie does have some scenes of violence that could be over the top for young children. Such as a polar bear being brutally mauled to death. And also the theme of kidnapping and experimentation on children is also prominent in the plot. Unfortunately the ending is not very conclusive, leaving off where a sequel should take over, but it seems very unlikely a sequel shall ever be made. I would recommend this film to fans of Fantasy Adventure movies, especially the Blu-ray version as the audio quality is great on it.

I had some shipping trouble with this but I won't let that get in the way with my overall. Bought 2 special edition copies 1 as gift and one for my Collection. The movie by itself was done very well, Including some very famous actors/tress. The children filled there roles to perfection. The best part of it was how the CGI was used through out the film. The animals (deamons) and others just fit well into reality. I won't talk about the move, but will ask you after the movie to watch and hear the Directors Commentary & Special Disk. It really helps place things in a understanding perspective. The Kids enjoyed it, and as an Adult we can always use a little fantasy in our lives. After the ending we're all pretty much looking fwd to owning the rest of the Golden Compass saga. .

The Golden Compass is an imaginative story. The movie is a beautiful adaptation from book to screen. The acting is right on. Very well cast, especially with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. Sam Elliot is a nice surprise and perfect in his role. The polar bears are wonderfully portrayed and come to life on the screen. The story is timeless and appeals to all ages. A great story of quest and growth that should become a classic.
