Synopsis

The Rules of Attraction
Bret Easton Ellis' controversial novel about the sexual, emotional, and chemical interactions of a group of wealthy and amoral college students is brought to the screen in this adaptation from writer and director Roger Avery. Sean Bateman (James Van Der Beek) is a student at Camden College, a well-respected private school on the East Coast. Sean is attracted to Lauren Hynde (Shannyn Sossamon), a high minded and seemingly unapproachable coed, while Lauren is infatuated with Victor (Kip Pardue), a handsome but self-centered ladies' man. Lauren's empty-headed roommate, Lara (Jessica Biel), is also attracted to Victor, while he has no qualms about being involved with both. Lauren used to date affected snob Paul Denton (Ian Somerhalder), but Paul, a bisexual, currently lusts after Sean. Meanwhile, friendly campus drug dealer Rupert (Clifton Collins Jr.) finds a ready market for cocaine among his classmates; Sean, a steady customer, finds himself financially embarrassed and begins dealing drugs to help pay off his debts, while leading Paul on for his ready supply of marijuana. The Rules Of Attraction also features Eric Stoltz as Mr. Lance Lawson, Faye Dunaway and Swoosie Kurtz as semi-concerned parents, and Fred Savage as one of Sean's customers. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This is a classic story about 6 young people trying to find the one they love. Jessica Biel Plays a unconfident teen who ruins the love between 2 people and James Van Der Beek plays a drug dealer that has nothing to lose. Shannyn Sossamon is a girl that is waiting for her boyfriend that is in Europe for vacation, when she meats Van Der Beek and falls in love. This movie covers it all, everything that you hope wont go wrong ends up going wrong.

I'm really glad to see that there is an affordable US release of this film. This is my favorite movie so I coughed up the $30 for the UK version that they also sell on this site, but I'm impressed that an American version got cut and that Best Buy is selling it for only $10. Sometimes Best Buy will do things that bother me, but this is certainly not one of those occasions. Good job guys.

Based on Bret Easton Ellis' book of the same name, it closely follows the book. Great dialogue, wild story about a bunch of students at a small college on the East Coast who are involved in lots of fornicating, drinking and drugs. The iconic scene involving "Victor" and his trip to Europe makes the whole movie worth watching. Ending will leave you wanting more.

This is an experience. Exploring the craziness and confusion all occurring in a college that is just as delusional as its characters. This is the 2nd best film based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel; the first for me being American Psycho. You need to get this!

Very good film with some surprising performances (especially that of James Vanderbeek of Dawson's Creek fame). If you are offended/bothered by certain R-rated content (drug use, profanity, etc.) I would not recommend you buy this blu ray.

This movie is what young adults behaved and feel nowadays, crazy and brutal, but you feel for them, you will feel that you are one of the characters as you were young
