X Files I Want to Believe was not what many fans were hoping for after a 6 year absence after the show's final episode in 2002. It had nothing to do with the upcoming alien invasion (in 2012) which the show's primary storyline was all leading up to. Chris Carter believed he could create a standalone movie that appealed to all people, not just fans of the show. This goal was not the end result as seen from its box office earnings and the fact that many die hard fans (including myself) were somewhat disappointed with the film. I was dying for a alien invasion plot! However, after seeing the film twice it grew on me. This movie was meant to show and revolve around the ever complicated relationship of Mulder and Scully, and it does this rather well. While the plot was rather boring and unimportant and did not have the paranormal essence which made the show and first movie so fun, for people who love the characters of Mulder and Scully this movie is a nice addition to your X Files collection. However, if a third movie based on the invasion is not made, this movie WOULD NOT serve as a good final appearance from our favorite paranormal detectives. Final words: A third movie depends on the sales of this DVD so all those who want that third and final invasion movie, GO OUT and BUY!!!

First of all, my wife and I are huge movie collectors. We currently own around 2,000 DVDs, including the entire X-Files boxed set with every episode and the first movie. I'm not bragging, just showing some credibility. My wife and I HUGE X-Files fans! We watched this in the theater and again on DVD, and I'm sorry, but we can't figure out why so many people were dissing this movie. All I can think of, is that people set thier expectations too high. I don't know what they were expecting, more about UFOs maybe? I don't know. This makes me think about the last Indiana Jones movie (the Crystal Skull.) People just ripped that apart, and again, my wife and I couldn't figure out why, we loved it. I just think that people set thier sites so high for a sequel of this caliber, and when it doesn't meet their standards, they get all bent out of shape! If you like the X-Files or even if you don't, I still recommend this movie. But, ignore the hype, don't expect the movie-of-the-century, relax, and just enjoy the film for what it is. This is a really good film and deserves to be appreciated. So, if you haven't seen it, watch it with a clear head and make your own judgement. If you don't like it, I'm sorry. If you do enjoy it, as we did, then you 'll understand what I'm talking about. I highly recommend it!

While I was hoping for a great return of Mulder and Scully (and the acting was good), the script was not what I expected. Perhaps I was too nostalgic in my opion, but I was left wanting more from the writing. While overall this was a good movie, it wasn't the best of the X-FIles series. I guess since Chris Carter killed off all the characters I loved (and sometimes loved to hate) on the series, there wasn't as much of the true X-Files feel to this movie. Perhaps my expectations were far greater than they should have been, and I will be interested to see how I feel after a second viewing, but for now I rate it as good, but not great.
