Q: Is it 16 TBs, 16MBs or 8TBs because when you start reading it states 3 different sizes
A: its 16TB total disk space. Usable space depends on how you configure the raid set
Q: Is it compatible with plex?
A: Yes, this model is Plex compatible.
A: This unit uses WD Red drives which are 5400rpm. The unit comes striped (RAID 0) so you would get more speed than the rpm implies. I find the read/write speeds acceptable. However, I am using this for external storage in mirrored (RAID 1) mode. For gaming I use SSD. I have an internal 1TB SSD and an external 2TB SSD. 3TB more than meets my gaming needs. RAID drives are designed for always on so a 5400RPM drive is optimal. The drives are user replaceable so you can always put in a faster RAID drive. WD does have the Red Pro line which are 7200RPM.
Q: is that 16T per bay ?? or 8T per bay totaling 16T ??
A: Hi webbandit, The WD My Book Duo 16 TB has two 8TB drives. Hence, the total capacity you get is 16 TB as the unit comes RAID-0 ready out of the box. Need Help? Please see our "'Contact Us" page for information.
A: First off this isn't a NAS. Prices on this drive vary as it goes on sale. But when I bought mine, it costs less than what a pair of 8TB Red drives would cost. So on cost alone this is a better deal. If you want the best configuration you would be better off buying an empty unit and adding the best drives you can afford.
Q: Our laptops operate at I7 and we were wondering if this device was the same or faster speed. Thanks.
A: Hi ALRE, The My Book Duo drive has massive capacity ideal for storing photos, videos, documents and music. It’s super-fast with up to 360MB/s sequential read speeds thanks to WD Red drives inside and use of the USB Type-C port. That USB Type-C port with all cables included makes it universally compatible (supports USB 3.1 Gen 1/3.0/2.0). Two USB Type-A hub ports deliver flexibility for additional accessories. I got a 2 x 8T to replace my previous one, one drive of which failed, and apparently, had not been mirroring. The price makes it attractive, and WD has a long reputation -- I've used their drives over the years. Here's the thing, if you know about RAID, how it works, what to expect, etc., this could be great solution if you don't want to spend the BIG money. But, be aware, it comes with no software and no manual. So your first task will be to search for those. The user manual on the WD website is OLD (the list of operating system compatibility ends at Window 8 (pre 2015) and Mac OS Mavericks (2013)) and the manual references obsolete WD software to manage your drives (WD SmartWare). So, you are on your own unless you already know what you need to do. So, this might suit you, otherwise, be prepared to educate yourself. BTW, WD support never replied to my support request.

I can not say enough. I bought this drive and am very happy. It performs very well and without issue. The speed is comparable to having the drives internal to my pc. Never have I found that. I get the same speed regardless of the connector or cable I have used. It is roughly 200MB/s. The USB hub feature works great. Just remember to have the main drive recognized before you connect your external drives. The software, everything is top notch. Came with two RED NAS drives with the 256MB cache made in Thailand. It is a newer RAID software so it did not accept a WD RAID built in another WD device. That was not expected.
