Q: Can this be used to store and play PS5 games on PS5?
A: Hello Gam3r18, Sony added support for external USB hard drives on the PS5 with their April 2021 update. However, due to PS5 restrictions, games can only be played off the console’s internal SSD. As such, external USB storage hard drives only function as a faster way to hot-swap games and data on or off the PS5’s internal storage. -Need Help? Please see our "'Contact Us" page for information
Q: Can you transfer directly from a card reader without a computer?
A: Unless it’s a smart reader that can do that transfer and power up the drive on its own, then no. This is just a dummy device. It’s storage. You’ll still need something to tell it what to copy and where.
A: You can always format the drive and start from scratch, but it sounds like you have some sort of auto backup running. You’ll want to stop that if you’re not wanting to fill up the drive automatically.
Q: Can I use this to play games with my pc?
A: Yes, of course you can use it to play games on a PC. This is compatible with PC, MAC, PS3/PS4, Xbox 360/Xbox One, and just about any other device or system that uses the USB 3.0 port for connectivity (I have no idea why Western Digital answered this question at all if they were going to just post some totally unrelated copy/paste nonsense...LOVE WD hard drives & SSDs, but that was a seriously whack brainless tech monkey response...do better WD!)
