Q: Is this SMR or CMR write technology
A: All Red Plus and Red Pro drives are CMR (as of this writing in Oct. 2021). The Red line is base 5400RPM as SMR, Plus 5400RPM as CMR, and Pro 7200RPM as CMR. In fact, the whole reason the Plus exists is so they can distinguish between the 5400RPM drives in SMR vs CMR. Anyway, so this Red PLUS 4TB is CMR as all Plus drives will be.

A: I don’t think this will work since it is a 3.5” hard drive. Typically, laptops use 2.5” hard drives.

A: If the motherboard has unused sata ports and the psu has extra sata connectors, then yes.

Q: Is this compatible with a Synology DS220+?
A: Technically, yes it can be supported. The real answer is a little trickier--This is the version I have and the firmware it uses: NAS 3.5" SATA HDD Western Digital Red Plus WD40EFZX - 68AWUN0 81.00B81 4TB However, there is the possibility that the WD firmware for new drives may be updated at some point. Q: Is this compatible with the My Cloud Pro Series PR4100?
A: It’s the original equipment WD puts in the PR4100. I just replaced 6 year old drives. These are the exact model.
A: It isn’t. XxxFRX vs xxxFAX was the only obsfucation they tried with the red series. Otherwise cosistent with WD red.
