  • Key Specs
    • Number of Channels: 9.2 (The number of discrete channels of sound output. This can be a single number or multiple numbers separated by decimal(s). The first number is the primary, horizontally directed audio channels. The number after the first decimal, if applicable, is the number of subwoofer outputs or channels. The number after the second decimal, if applicable, is the number of height or atmospheric channels designed to immerse the listener by producing overhead sound effects.)
    • Video Pass-through: HDR, 2160 (4K), 3D (Devices with this feature allow video signals to travel from their source to a target device without alteration. For example, a receiver with 4K pass-through would allow 4K video signal from a Blu-ray player to pass to a target TV with surround sound; without the pass-through ability, the receiver would not allow both 4K video and surround sound to be transmitted simultaneously.)

    • High Resolution Audio: true (Hear music the way musicians and sound technicians intended it to be heard. Products that support hi-res audio deliver audio signals with a dynamic range and bandwidth far greater than that of a standard CD so you'll be able to enjoy pure music with outstanding sound quality. The device supports high-resolution audio signals, which more closely resemble the quality of music as it was originally recorded, with more texture and detail than can be heard via typical music streaming services or CDs.)
    • Number of Audio Zone Source Outputs: 4 (Multiple source outputs from the receiver mean different speakers are able to receive different sound sources from the receiver or preamp/processor. For every output, a different sound source can be accessed simultaneously in different zones. For example, two source outputs could be a streaming media player in one room and a Blu-ray player in another.)

Product Manuals

Q: Is this caramel-like goo inside the receiver and on top of a component normal?

A: Received a response from Yamaha within 24 hours "It is a potting epoxy that is used in the construction to stop vibration. It is applied by hand and normal."

Q: How many watts

A: Each channel is rated at 165 watts RMS per channel into 6 ohms, 20 Hz – 20kHz with no more than 0.06% THD. But that's only with two channels driven - not all nine. The maximum device power consumption is 490 watts, which puts a significant limit on the power available when driving speakers with all 9 channels. Typically in a 7.1 surround sound system, your front 3 speakers will use the bulk of the available power. Frankly, this level of power isn't sufficient do drive nine speakers - not in a system at this price point. Clearly the intent is to add a separate stereo amplifier to drive the left and right front speakers, leaving the Yamaha to drive the center, surround, back and elevation speakers.

Q: What is the distance between the front of the front foot and the back of the rear foot?

A: On my Yamaha RX-A 3080 the distance from the front of the front leg to the back of the back leg is 14 in. Hope this was helpful Old Willie

Q: Is this capable of 7.2.4?

A: It’s designed for a 7.2.4 configuration but there are only 9 internal amps, and the configurations are hardwired and limited. Also, total power is shared among the internal amplifiers. Obviously you will need to add a stereo amplifier and definitely should opt to add it for the left and right front channels. Put another hundred watts into EACH of those and you’ll have a decent power distribution. You can further improve the power output by adding more external amps (eg. the center channel) but the choice of how is limited. I think the elevation speaker amplification must be either all internal or all external. I have two external stereo amps and wanted to use them for the front and front elevation speakers, but that isn’t one of the supported configurations.

Q: Has this receiver a AM/FM radio feature

A: YES - it comes with one of those wire antenna we have pinned to the back of the credenza that houses ours.

Q: does the unit offer 12 volt power on off to synchronize with Panamax switching units

A: Yes, it has a 12v trigger if that’s what your asking.
