Q: Does it have a backlit keyboard?
A: Yes, it does. Interestingly enough, the supplied ACER specs leave the backlit keyboard information out. That was a dealbreaker for me. I even did an on-line chat with an ACER tech who told me it didn't have that feature, but when I saw it at Best Buy, it did.
Q: Are you able to add more RAM if needed?
A: No, the RAM is not expandable on this laptop.
Q: Does this really have a LAN port?
A: The R5-471T does not have an Ethernet port, it is an error on our website. We have sent a message to get our website updated to reflect the correct information.
Q: Is it possible to downgrade to Windows 8.1?
A: I just bought this computer and it works great on Windows 10. Why take a step backwards??? Makes no sense to me.
Q: Does the wifi connect to both 2.4 ghz and 5ghz?
A: The Acer R-14 does connect to both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. If you have an AC wireless router it is compatible with the ultra-fast speeds available through that. I have seen connection rates of up to 866mb/s on my ASUS AC router.
Q: Is display glossy or matte?
A: Very glossy. If you work in an office with fluorescent lighting, there's a lot of glare--hard to see. Must use specific angles.
A: The USB 2 is purposely included because it is an "always on" port so that you can charge any device even when the laptop is off.
