Q: Is this just the loop or is it the loop and the air tag?
A: It's just an accessory, doesn't come with AirTag, which is a separate purchase. It should be more clear.
A: If your suitcase or whatever is not near you, a “network” of iPhones near you and your AirTag is created to show its location on your device.
Q: How far like feet does this read say if your 100 ft away will it still pickup?
A: Probably not 100 feet but it will give you a general idea of where the item was last seen/read from so you have a clue. I find that it works very well with the newer iphones with precise location.
Q: How does the air tag works? Do you have to download an app and is it free?
A: Connects to your iphone under (find my phone) items tab

A: No.
