A: It twists off counter-clockwise. You do have to apply more pressure than you'd think, but it gets easier after the first few times.
Q: Why is the on/off button flashing?
A: It's a reminder to descale the brewer. Special cleaning of your 8 Cup Pour Over Coffee Maker is recommended depending on the frequency of use and quality of water used in the unit. If water in your area is especially hard, the following cleaning procedure should be performed more frequently, since minerals in water can detract from the flavor of the coffee and possibly lengthen brew time. While brewing, if the BREW/OFF power indicator light begins to flash, then the 8 Cup Pour Over Coffee Maker should be descaled. Fill carafe with 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts cold water. Pour water and vinegar solution into the water reservoir. Press and hold the BREW/OFF power button for 3 seconds until the BREW/OFF power indicator light slowly flashes. A: Depends on how big your cup is . . .it states you need to add at least 5.50z of water. Remember some water evaporates, so 8oz won't be a true 8oz. Brewing with water at the "4" level gave me two cups of about 7oz of coffee.
