    • Brand: Celestron
    • Model Number: 22401
    • Color: Blue/black
  • Additional Dimensions
    • Objective Lens Diameter: 70 millimeters (Generally, the larger the diameter of the objective lens, the greater the light-collecting power and the brighter images will appear.)
  • Included
    • Eyepieces Included: 1.25" 20mm, 10mm eyepiece
    • Tripod Included: true
    • Case Included: false
    • USB Cable Included: false
  • Material
    • Material: Other
  • Performance
    • Water Resistant: false (Resists some degree of water penetration.)
  • Power
    • Battery Size: Other (The battery size required for operation.)
  • Features
    • Magnification Type: Variable (Variable magnification indicates the presence of a zoom function on the device, but fixed magnification cannot be adjusted by the user.)
    • Optical Design: Refractor (There are three primary optical designs for telescopes: refractor, reflector, or catadioptric. Refractors use lenses, reflectors use mirror(s), and catadioptric telescopes use a combination of both to form images.)
    • Indicator Light(s): false
    • Tripod Mountable: Yes
  • Imaging
    • Magnification: 165 times
  • Exposure Control
    • Focal Ratio: f/10 (Measurement of the device's optic "speed," calculated by dviding focal length by aperture. The smaller (faster) the f/number, the lower the magnification, wider the field of view, and brighter the image - good for low power observing and deep space photography. Larger (slower) f/numbers are better suited for high power lunar and planetary viewing.)
    • Focal Length: 700 millimeters (The distance from an optical device's primary lens or mirror to the point where light rays come together in a single focused point, used to determine a device's magnifying power.)
  • Other
    • Telescope Class: Refractor
    • Limiting Visual Magnitude: 12 (Measures the brightness of the object as determined from the naked eye (will be less than the same object's limiting photographic magnitude). The larger the magnitude, the fainter the item that can be seen.)
    • Resolving Power: 2 arc sec (Refers to the device's ability to distinguish detail between far away objects and separate distinct points of an object at small angular distances. The lower the arc seconds, the greater the ability to distinguish detail. Generally, resolving power increases as the diameter of the telescope increases.)
    • Assembly Required: Partial

Q: Has anyone else tries this telescope? Should you really have to squeeze the focus knobs together to get them to adjust? Or is this more likely a sign that the knob has failed and is stripping out?

A: The Inspire 80AZ focus knobs shouldn't be squeezed tightly for moving the focuser in and out. It may have become misaligned and needs realignment.
