Nice Laptop With Simple Fixes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good laptop by specifications. I can say the 5400 rpm drive causes the laptop boot time to be 2-3 minutes. Not to mention slightly slower program start ups. I would recommend doing the following: First update the bios. This is important as I'm sure it includes new security measures for the meltdown hack that's out there (This is a guess but I'd be surprised if something isn't there for it). Next, look in the bios settings for booting. You can get there by hitting delete when you see the dell logo and pressing F12, then select bios boot. Dell for there awesomeness put the computer in through boot mode instead of quick boot mode. You want to change that. Now that you're in a faster booting mode with updated bios, it should be a little better. However, if you want to get the best performance from this machine I recommend buying a ssd M.2 card. I purchased a Samsung 960 Evo. It will set you back a little more than $100 for a 250gb version and that should be all you need since there is a 2tb hard drive already in there. To install it simply follow the instructions listed in the manual for the laptop that you can find on dell's website (its as simple as loosing 6 screws and removing 4 additional screws and lifting off the back cover). After it's installed you'll want to remove the encryption dell put on your hard drive. Dell turned on Bitlocker on the C: drive, which isn't a bad thing if you never look to reinstall windows without a decryption key or clone the hard drive. If you go to Control Panel\System and Security\System there is a link you can click on at the bottom to remove the encryption. Once it is removed it gets easier. Simply download Samsung's free program called data migration. It is free. From there you you can clone the hard drive to the SSD (don't be afraid of this, it guides you through it and it is easy).. This will let you boot Windows from the Samsung 960 card. Then you just need to format the Hard Drive partition of the 2TB card using Microsoft format hard disk partition. I'll leave you to google how to do this part as there is a ton of videos online. And once you are done, i'm happy to say it now boots up and logs in using your face in under 10 seconds. It's zippy and fast. Pros: -Once updated, super duper boot time and performance. -2TB Hard drive, awesome for media and program space. -12GB of ram is really all you'll need -Touchscreen is responsive -Backlight on keyboard is nice. The CONS: - As other reviewers have stated the screen is a little over saturated, and not as crisp as 1080p should be. -5 lbs sounds light but can be a little heavy for long duration. -Battery life is not so good at all. Prepare to plug in. Battery is a WDX0R and it is not long lasting. Hoping another company makes something larger that will fit eventually. -Keyboard feels a bit cramped to me - Screen brightness could be better and it is very glossy.

Not ideal, but very close!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a powerful machine for any office or home use needs, quad core Kaby Lake i7 1.8GHz processor is very fast (I've noticed about 20% performance improvement based on CPUz benchmark compared to my older Skylake based laptop) and 12Gb of on-board RAM is plenty for heavy applications. Laptop's enclosure is pretty thin, lightweight and rigid, display is held magnetically when closed. Since it's a 2-in-1 machine - display could be folded all the way back transforming laptop into a huge and very powerful tablet, however screen image can not be flipped 180 degrees. Screen is touch enabled and you can use your finger to click on things even in a regular laptop mode, I did not find it very useful though. Screen resolution is 1920x1080 and image is pretty good, however I found it lacking crispiness a little bit and color saturation was low for my taste. I've tried to boost saturation in the Intel Graphics properties app and it helped a little bit. If you depend on the screen quality in your day to day activities (photo editing, graphic design, video editing) - definitely look at the laptop in person before purchasing and see if you are satisfied with the image. Keyboard is pretty compact but comfortable to use, it's backlit (backlight could be turned on and off, no brightness adjustment). Touchpad - very accurate, it's surface has a nice texture. Ports - laptop has 1 USB-C port with the Display Port support, HDMI output, 3 USB 3.0 ports (one of these support high power charging), SD card reader, headphone jack and a power input. Included 45W charger is very small and easy to pack. I've found that battery life is around 3.5 hours when actively working so you would need that charger to last you thru the day. Upgradeability - I would definitely recommend adding a PCIe SSD drive to the laptop since it's performance seems to be limited by the mechanical hard drive. Laptop has 2 memory slots, one is used by 8Gb module and another one has 4Gb in it. Overall - excellent performer! I'm taking one star off for the screen and lack of SSD drive.

Sleek and Beautiful Dell Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DELL Inspiron 15 7000 Setup/Testing/Conclusion Packaging was definitely not something I would say was amazing. There wasn’t really anything that hooked me. Personally when I buy a product, I really like packaging and the box. Maybe it's just me? Dell did do a great job in making sure the laptop was well secured in the box though, so no problem with shipping/transportation. Upon opening the box, I was honestly hoping to see a sleeve or protective case for this laptop. Why? Because the laptop itself is honestly pretty good looking. The color and finish on the product is definitely eye catching. So I would’ve liked to see a protective sleeve/case. After pulling the laptop out there were 2 small booklets which are the Quick Start Guide and the Warranty/Safety/Regulatory booklet. Setting up the laptop was quite simple. You basically follow screen by screen and set up Windows 10. After that, you’ll have the opportunity to set up your laptop with Dell by registering for an account. I must say that first impression was not so great after powering on the laptop… It felt really slow. This could be because it’s running a mechanical hard drive instead of a solid state drive. I’ve been using nothing but SSDs now and I have to say it makes a huge difference! The good thing is after going through all the necessary setup and updates, the laptop runs a lot smoother and faster. I still wished that Dell put a SSD in this model instead of the traditional mechanical hard drive. I feel like all desktops and laptops now should come with an SSD now, even if you’re not gaming. The processor and the memory is definitely enough to operate this laptop. I would’ve also liked to see a separate video card instead of the integrated graphics from the Intel processor. The laptop seems to have enough space and it's honestly quite heavy. So having a video card instead of the integrated graphics would’ve made sense in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong though, this laptop isn’t made/marketed for gaming. But with the size, I don’t see why a video card would hurt. What I do really like about this laptop is the camera with facial recognition and the touchscreen. I tried just using the touchscreen and did the tablet mode. Overall, the touchscreen is very responsive and Dell has done a great job with that. I kinda had fun putting it in tablet mode. When you do that, the hinges have this rubber piece that sorta props the laptop up so your keyboard isn’t flush against the surface. I was a bit worried at first about scratching the keyboard side of the laptop when using it in tablet mode but the rubber pieces seem to do what it's made to do. I’ve seen some laptops that have this tablet feature have a swivelable screen so that your screen flips prior to it going into tablet mode. This way, the keyboard is not against the surface of wherever you’re putting it and instead is the bottom of your laptop. So perhaps I would’ve liked to see that feature on this specific model. The battery is pretty good depending on what you’re doing and what setting you have it on. You can either do battery saver, recommended, better performance, and best performance. With it set to better performance it didn’t honestly last that long. So presumably, on best performance it probably won’t last long at all. Leaving it on recommended seems to give you enough performance to do daily tasks while trying to conserve battery so that is nice. The laptop does get quite hot if you’re doing a lot of stuff on it and the fans do kick on to where you can hear it. I’ve dealt with louder laptop fans though so that part wasn’t too bad. I did notice that the AC adapter gets extremely hot when you’re using it to charge the laptop. The speakers are quite nice and you can even hear things clearly when it's in tablet mode. Overall, I would give this laptop a solid 4 out of 5 stars. If you’re on the search for a laptop that can do all your daily tasks and has a massive 2TB hard drive, I would definitely recommend buying this laptop. Having the ability to put it in tablet mode with the responsive touchscreen is definitely a nice feature to have. I only gave it 4 out of 5 because of the cons I gave above in my write up. Sleek Workhorse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Inspiron line has been for years simple workhorse laptops for every day home/school use. The line keeps improving and this model has plenty of welcome changes. The whole housing is made of brushed metal, the screen is a seamless piece of glass. The touchpad is large, accepts multi-finger gestures and it's very responsive. The screen is touchscreen and accepts active pens, although does not include one -- optional, and has 360 degrees hinges that folds as a tablet. The system works well and the screen stays in place. The keyboard has island keys with good feedback, and good amount of travel for a laptop keyboard. The keys are lighted, with off/med/max settings. It does not have a number pad, which is actually something I prefer because the keys are centered instead of having to type on the left side because of the number pad that I'd rarely use. On the left it has a round power plug, an USB-C port that also has DisplayPort (But doesn't seem to be able to charge the computer, which is inconvenient, since many new laptops are now using USB-C chargers), a full-size DHMI port that supports HDMI 2.0 (For 4K TVs), two USB 3.1 ports and audio jack. To the right there's a security lock port, another USB and an SD card reader. There aren't many lights to distract on this laptop: The power button has a white light and there's a sleep/charge light in the front, but there is no charge indicator when the lid is closed, which confused me at first since I cannot tell when it finishes charging. The screen is 1080x1920 (Full HD), and it's very clear to read. Audio is OK for a laptop, comes from the sides on the bottom. Something I noticed is that it's much simpler to service than other new laptops: The bottom shell can be easily removed with Philips screws, and some are captive to make it simpler. The battery can be replaced with some screws and there are two DDR4 memory slots (This model has 12 GB, so one slot is 8 GB and the other has a 4 GB module). Dell site mentions it can be upgraded up to 16 GB, the 2.5"5400 RPM Tb hard drive and has an empty slot for an M.2 SSD. The CPU is an 8th gen i7, which is currently the best, and if you're looking for a laptop to keep for a few years, this is the type of CPU to consider. The battery is good enough around the house, but it might not last the whole day. It could last 6 hours depending on use. Hard drive: It has 2 TB, which is plenty and more for most users , however I should've considered a smaller SSD instead because an SSD would've been much faster, runs cooler and the battery lasts longer. Although this model comes with Windows 10 Home, it supports drive encryption, which it something I couldn't do with older Windows 10 home laptops, because this has a newer TPM (Encryption) module 2.0. There is a front camera that supports Windows Hello login, that's part of Windows 10. I'm very pleased with this laptop, my issues are that it doesn't charge via USB-C like many new laptops, and the battery could be larger. I would've preferred an SSD version (so consider the other Inspiron models with SSDs), but since it's very simple to expand, I can add it later. Windows 10 Home supports encryption, the screen is very nice to read on, and the keys are nice to type on. The touch screen with pen support is also nice, and it's easy to expand.

Well balanced and fast laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Impressions of this laptop are quite good. The overall performance/appeal of this laptop will pretty much suit anyone's needs. The laptop has good hardware and is lightweight/portable. The screen on this laptop is pretty nice. With the newer 4K screens out not, I think 1080p works for 99% of most people out there. It's crisp and colors are good so it'll be more than enough for streaming your content as well as your spreadsheets. The touchscreen is responsive so it'll easily function as a really big tablet if need be. The folding screen is okay. I don't plan on using it in that configuration however, if I'm super lazy and just want to watch movies or something, I'm sure it'll come in handy then. 12GB of RAM is more than adequate for pretty much any task you'll need from your laptop. I was easily able to open/edit large (50mb) spreadsheets without too much lag. Some of my photo editing software also seemed to work pretty well on this machine too. As far as speed, the only negative I can think of is the HD. It's a 5400rpm drive so it's not the most blazing fast hard drive out there. In fact it's probably one of the slowest out there however, it is a 2TB drive so you give up speed for storage capacity. The 2TB hard drive, again, probably more than most people will need so can't go wrong there. I do plan on swapping out the hard drive for something a little faster but that's just me. As far as the other tech/hardware goes, it's pretty standard across the board. I'd suggest uninstalling the McAfee that comes with this as it can get quite annoying if you don't renew or, otherwise, pay attention to it. Still not sure why some people complain about laptops not having CD drives but, for the record, this one doesn't. Does make the laptop a little lighter and thinner so it's much more comfortable to tote around. I really like this laptop both from a hardware and price standpoint. There are other cheaper laptops out there however I've used Dell's both as personal and work laptops and never really had any issues with them. I think this is a good choice as a primary laptop whether it be for personal or home office duties.

Great computer for college student
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this Dell computer because it is easy to use, the processor allows it to be fast, and it has the capability to toggle between a laptop and a tablet. I use my digital pen with it, and I have found it very useful to have a touchscreen. It makes doing my work faster. The only things I would change are the sharpness of the pencil lines when I am in drawing mode (I would make them sharper), and an addition of a numeric keypad. Other than that, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Another Great Dell
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Dell laptop but I have had 7 Dell Desktops in the last 20 years. They are very reliable in my experience. I have yet to try the Ink pen, This is also my first non-Tablet/phone with a touchscreen. It is performing very well. I traded in my old laptop for a trade-in credit on the purchase. Sweet!

Q: QuestionDoes this particular computer use a computer pen ?
Asked by TK.
- A:Answer There was a special when I bought my laptop. It came with a pen (stylus), a Bamboo Ink. I absolutely hate it. After I stop using the pen, I can't use the keyboard. I can't type or do anything. It'll reset after a while, or, you can reboot the laptop. But, who has time for that. I called Bamboo's tech support and they offered zero assistance as to why this happens and no resolution.
