Q: what is the purpose of the ac adopter

A: Each USB 3.0 port provides 0.9 amps of power. 4 ports on the hub x 0.9amps each = 3.6amps. The one USB port you plug unto your computer with can't provide that much power- so you must supplement the power with a wall adapter.

Q: Also work without AC adaptor?

A: My flash drive and hotspot work fine w/o adapter. I would use it for an external hard drive though.

Q: Clarification On Piggybacking Hubs

A: It should not be an issue if the hubs are connected the additional power provided by the ac adapter. The power would no longer be drawn from the USB connection and it would only be used for data transfer.

Q: Can the hub be used only for USB 3.0 or is it also compatible with USB 2.0?

A: I use the Dynex for both 3.0 and 2.0 devices with absolutely no problems.

Q: Regarding DX-U34H41: Why does my Hub unexpectedly drop the connection to my PC?

A: I have had my unit for several months connected to a HP Pavilion computer with Window 8.1. I have not had a single disconnect. I would suggest that you delete the drivers and reinstall. If you still have the issue, try connecting to another computer to see if it still disconnects. If so, perhaps defective unit. If not, you might have an issue with your computer. It would at least tell you which end to begin looking.

Q: can the 4-port hub be USB connected to a wireless router for wireless access to the end devices

A: Yes but not all devices will be compatible. Router and drives as well as the hub will play part in to if the devices will or will not work. Generally USB is UPNP. I use a POWERED USB 3.0 hub connected to my Netgear Nighthawk, it works fine with 2 USB 3.0 HDDs.

Q: Piggyback Hubs

A: Yes. However you'll need to use both power adapters.

Q: can the dx-u34h41 hub stay plugged in to the computer and a recpticle so the power light is on for long periods of time when the computer in not on ?

A: My Dynex unit it plugged into a power strip which has continuous connection. It has been there for several months with no issues.
