So happy right now!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been trying to get this item for the better part of 2020 and gave up. Walked in Best Buy days before Christmas and Walla there it was on the shelf. So far so good it allows me to use my Canon 90d as a web cam! So happy right now.

Best bang for the buck
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Trying to stream in quarantine and this is what people told me to get. So far have only been able to figure out how to stream in 720p not the 4K or 1080. But atleast it’s better than my phone.

Cam Link works out of the box with right camera
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using both a built-in camera and Logitech webcam for the past two years for both online work meetings and online Dungeons & Dragons games (via Zoom). We started streaming some of our D&D games on Twitch, so I wanted to use my Canon Rebel T5i compact DSLR for a better video. I checked the Elgato website and noticed that my camera was not listed, which I read to mean that neither Elgato nor Canon confirmed the T5i would work with the Cam Link. So I bought it anyway to try it. I can confirm that the T5i does not work as expected for video calls and live streaming. So I replaced the Canon with a Sony A7C. I can confirm that the A7C works, as long as you use a micro-HDMI (not mini) to HDMI cable. The Cam Link is plug-and-play for both Mac (my home computer is a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15) and Windows (my work computer is a 2021-22 HP Elitebook). Elgato recommends using their Camera Hub software for Mac (free download from their website), and it works fine on my 8-year-old laptop. The Cam Link is pretty wide, so Elgato included an 8-inch USB-A extension (pictured) so users like me can plug it into the the USB port next to the HDMI port. One thing to note is that Elgato states on its website that the Cam Link only works in a root USB port, and my attempt to use it with a USB hub (mine is not powered) did not work. The video image through the Cam Link looks really good, especially when I use a low-aperture lens to blur my background in-camera. I suggest checking your camera settings to make sure that it doesn't shut down during a longer session (this has to do with the camera, not the Cam Link). I ran a four-hour game over Zoom and didn't run into any issues while using the Cam Link. I chose to give the Cam Link five stars because the Cam Link itself is plug-and-play, and Elgato maintains useful information on its website. This dongle exceeds my expectations from both set up and effectiveness, and it even works with my dinosaur of a computer. The included short cable makes it easy to plug into any USB-A port. It may seem pricey, but I find the support and the ease-of-use make it worth the cost.

It is a Cam Link.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product works as promised. It overheats very quickly and draws a lot of power, not good for devices that run off of battery.

Q: QuestionI don't understand what this thing does. The description says it captures video and audio from your camera but so what? My camera already does that. Why do I need another device to do what my camera already does?
Asked by Squanto.
- A:Answer This is a passthrough device for a laptop or PC, it takes the live view from your camera, and converts it to that your computer can see it, this allows you to use nicer cameras as a web cam. While there are cameras that have outputs that can be plugged into your computer, this is not for those, but more for dslrs.

Q: QuestionSo annoying that this item is out of stock everywhere. Including Elgato and Corsair's website. As all my kid's classroom has gone to video conferencing learning, it would be nice to be able to use this to set up the camera and resources out to Zoom.
Asked by David.
- A:Answer Hi David, That's right, unfortunately, no one anticipated this to happen whatsoever so we're doing as much as we can to have this product, and many others, available. If you have anything else we can help with, please reach out to us directly: help.elgato.com -Art

Q: QuestionWill this work with any HDMI signal or just cameras? I need something to stream audio and video from one computer into another, with the second computer seeing it as a source that I can use with OBS Studio.
Asked by Hybrid66.
- A:Answer The answer is both "yes" and "no" here. The Elgato Cam Link 4K will work with any unencrypted HDMI signal, according to their website. This means as long as the signal isn't encrypted with HDCP, it should be able to capture it as a source. If it is, then you're not going to be able to use this. Good luck! https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027959052-Cam-Link-4K-works-with-unencrypted-HDMI-sources

Q: QuestionWill this capture the audio as well as the video on my camera, or will I still need a stand alone mic?
Asked by user123.
- A:Answer It will Capture the audio from the device that is connected to it. Work if you connect a slr via HDMI to the elgato cam link, and then plug that into your computer, by choosing the sound from the cam link in whatever software you're running, you get the auido from the cameras mic/external mic if one is plugged into it. Hope this helps!

Q: QuestionWhat's the latency with capture card? I have a knock off version of this that's virtually useless since it has about a 1.5 - 2.0 second lag between what it shows and what's happening on the desktop (I'm using OBS).
Asked by JeffB.
- A:Answer When I record live stream or game capture there is no sync issues. Audio is in perfect sync. I would say the latency is very low

Q: QuestionCan this capture Nintendo Switch footage?
Asked by kt12.
- A:Answer You can plug the switch hdmi cable in directly and use your streaming software to see the game, but that may cause input delay. I like to use an hdmi splitter which let's me play on my tv and capture the game at the same time with no input delay.
