Great for most things
||Posted .I recently returned a Q8DT (Costco version of Q80T). It was a nice TV, but HDR content was always too dark, despite tweaking all the settings I could, especially shows like Loki and the Mandalorian. For the price, I wasn't willing to be frustrated every time I watched an HDR movie. I read lots of reviews on the U8G and the comparison rtings.com. I liked that the U8G had basically the same feature set as the Q80T, was cheaper, had a much higher contrast and was much brighter than the Q80T. I've had the U8G for a few days now and there are a number of things I like: 1. It is very snappy. The Android interface is very responsive and seems to be faster than the Samsung interface. 2. The picture is really good and can get very bright. I no longer feel like HDR (and Dolby Vision) are too dark. In fact, I've turned down the brightness. 3. There's lots of apps, since it is Android. Here's the things I don't really like about the TV. They all really have to do with the style of the TV. 1. It's fat. It's over 3" thick. I mounted it on my wall, which still worked fine, but it is over 1/2 " thicker than the Q80T, which was also pretty think compared to other TV. Not a deal killer, but it would be nice if it was thinner. 2. I think the sensor box at the bottom of the TV is a little ugly. It just seems unnecessary, since most other TVs just build the IR/bluetooth/whatever sensors into the main frame of the TV. I think the Samsung TVs definitely look more polished. 3. This is the main reason, I'm dropping a star. The TV has a physical switch to disable the TV microphone, which is great. I don't want my TV listening all the time for commands. The problem is that when you turn off the microphone switch, four bright LEDs shine at the bottom of the TV and there is NO WAY TO TURN THEM OFF ( I called support to check). I can't imagine who thought having lights shining at the bottom of the TV would be a good idea. It's like I'm being punished for trying to disable the microphone. Apparently this incredibly annoying "feature" was added to the H9G (predecessor to the U8G) in a software update. The only reason I can imagine that Hisense would do something so annoying is because they were getting too many support calls about people not being able to use their microphone because it was switched off or Hisense wants to make sure the microphone is off so it can spy on me. Neither are acceptable. Please, please, please Hisense, make that an option to disable the lights. It's clearly software driven, since an update turned them on. That alone is enough to consider returning the TV, despite all the other great features. Right now, I'm using a hack to disable the microphone that I found on a forum where others were complaining about the problem. I deny the microphone permission to the Google application, but then that prevents the bluetooth microphone on the remote from working as well.

Most Advanced and User Friendly!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. It took less than 20 minutes to set up the television after it was mounted and connected to the power source; it was really simple and smooth. After turning on the TV, you'll be prompted to enter your Google account information, select a wifi or wired network, and then select an application to install. Remove the TV from Eco mode to fully utilize its capabilities. Among the various options, I discovered that the Theater day mode produces the finest picture quality and deepest colors of any of the others. You may also alter additional parameters manually, such as sharpness, brightness, and white balance, to get the best possible picture for your particular setting, but if you don't want to be bothered, I recommend sticking with the simple default. The sound level and quality are adequate, and there are sound settings to pick from, much like on most other TVs. With the TV's Dolby Atmos sound, you'll be able to enjoy simulated surround sound with content created specifically for it. The Bedroom setting, for example, reduces the sound volume, as well as the highs and lows, so it isn't too loud in the calm of the night. The game mode that employs the Motion Rate of 240 to increase the speed of refresh rate to reduce lag and works well with all consoles, which is great for my PS5. HDR is supported on this TV, and it will inform you when you play content that was shot with HDR. You will be able to tell how different and fantastic the picture quality is based on your internet connection speed; I recommend hardwiring your internet to get the most out of this feature. The TV boasts a Quantom Dot color feature that, according to Hisense, unlocks over a billion color possibilities for improved picture quality. This feature is exclusive to Hisense and is their method of branding the TV's improved picture quality. This TV's most notable feature is that it runs on the Android TV operating system. This means you can install any streaming software from the Google Play store. It's also lightning fast when compared to many high-end 4K smart TVs. The menus are lightning fast, and the program load time is practically non-existent. There are numerous apps to choose from and enjoy. Another excellent feature is Google Assistant, which you can enable by linking the TV with its remote through Bluetooth, and the TV will respond to voice instructions just like your Android phone. You may ask Google Assistant to turn on and off the TV. "Hey Google, play Cocomelon on Netflix," and the TV will turn on and start playing Netflix, proving that it is a Game Changing TV! Another built-in feature of this TV is Google Cast, which allows you to easily cast content from your Android phone or tablet to the TV. This HiSense 4K U8G Series with Android TV is a fantastic buy, and its most advanced features will never fail to impress you.

An Affordable Gorgeous 4K TV!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Despite being an unknown Chinese brand company or not being top of the brand list like; LG, Samsung, Sony, etc, Hisense U8G came through with spectacular specs in a package under $800, when it was sold. Out of the box, tv was upgrading its firmware, which is a must for all the ghosting previous owner was told about, it solved the issue for those. Pros: 1. Out of the box, the color and brightness were gorgeous, instantly recognizing PS5, Xbox series S, Apple TV 4k devices. tips; change all the HDMI settings to enhanced to get the 2.1 for PS5 and Xbox series S, best to get those HDMI types as well to get the most out of it, make sure they are Dolby enhanced HDMI cable. The sound quality is excellent, pretty loud, and clear. 2. Xbox series S recognized all the checked boxes like Dolby gaming, 120 refresh rate, VRR, etc. keep in mind you have to switch its HDMI to HDMI enhanced in tv setting to get all the functions to show, also switch to game mode in picture setting for free sync. The same goes for PS5. love instant turn on 3. like all its owners have said here, it's very bright indeed, tested all the youtube's HDR, Dolby, and Dolby atmos vids, and it's passed all of them with flying colors. Cons: 1. firstly there aren't many cons to this gorgeous tv, except maybe some minor details. if you are the owner of Apple TV 4k, it should work fine and get Dolby vision right away with proper Dolby enhanced HDMI cable ofc, but some youtube's HDR vid doesn't show well even its 4k refresh rate even tho its 4k vid, maybe its apple and google don't play nice there or waiting for an update on it. BUT it shows find in its android tv youtube app since it's android. 2. Also, advice to check some Reddit (check "r/Hisense" under Reddit) or google for calibration setting of its pic, especially for HDR, SDR for both gaming and streaming to look its finest. tips; do turn off those motion enhancement causes of the soap opera effect except for noise reduction in SDR contents. conclusion; I'm satisfied with this purchase especially with its price point to its value, and the tv itself looks great and sold to mount on wall ofc, happily playing and streaming all my contents on it. Give it chance like I did because I was a toss-up between LG C1 or U8G, but due to its price and features it brings, after many many research and youtube reviews, i went with U8G. hoppping for it to last longer that's all.

Superb picture. So-so remote and service.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. The 55U8G Hisense TV has a superb picture. Sharp, accurate color, good up-conversion. We did not see anything close in picture quality except for TVs costing almost twice as much or more. In sync with our impressions, we have found TV ratings at Rtings.com to be detailed and reliable, usually tracking with Consumer Reports but including way more useful information. None of the other anywhere near comparable TVs we investigated had some of the features we need - which may be quite specific to us. We need an input for the older composite 480i video-audio signal (yellow-red-white RCA cables) for an older, but fantastically useful, DVR. This is now available on only one Sony model and not at all on TVs from Samsung or LG. We also need a easy way to switch on and off Closed Captions without drilling down through many layers of menus. Overall, we are very pleased with this Hisense TV. Now for the minuses which are relatively minor. 1) The remote supplied with the TV is quite minimalist, lacking many functions we use daily. There are no number buttons for channel selection. There is no one-touch button to turn on and off Closed Captions. There is no “stop” button to end a streaming program on Netflix or YouTube. Luckily there are hundreds of alternative remotes available on the internet: we bought and are happy with a model ERF3J80H. Cf. photo. 2) The software that keeps the audio volume constant as you switch between inputs is flaky at best. It works, randomly, about one out of ten times you turn the TV on. Most of the time we have to adjust the volume considerably when we switch inputs. 3) The analog audio out (headphone) signal is too weak for our purposes requiring a headphone amplifier but I doubt this will affect very many customers. 4). We called Hisense service twice to discuss some of these issues. They were of zero help.

Good TV
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Good Tv. You have to mess with the settings to get the right settings, otherwise the colors look to bright and cartoony for broadcast TV. Theater night/reduce backlight to 80/color temp low/ local dimming high....then it looks real good for SDR. HDR looks good, as well. I owned a u7g and you didnt have the same problem with having to adjust the settings as much though, the colors didnt pop to much, but it didnt have the over brightness problem, things looked more natural. The backlight remote is a gimmick, you hardly notice it and only turns on when you press a button, rendering it useless. All in all its a good TV, but I made the mistake of not visting a BB store. Other options for good non oled TV's are the TCL r646, hisense U7g, sony x90j, LG qned 55(just released.) Be nice If Best buy had more 1080p sports at the store as well, not just 4k demos. The first picture is standard mode, the second is the settings I mentioned. I do have a nvidia shield that upscales to 4k it was only in use in the 2nd picture. I would like to thank Best buy for excellent service the price went down during the return period and then price matched, also they give truck service for tv's over 55 and place the box in your room, amazon doesnt do this.

Get this NOW! XBox Series X All Green Boxes Check
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Coming from someone who has been doing his TV research for TV’s that take advantage of the XBOX Series X: THIS IS THE ONE TO GRAB (if on budget but want to check all the green boxes on XBOX Video Settings) This TV is crisp and bright! My XBOX looks flawless and using the 120hz with VRR makes it all punch!! I watched multiple YouTube videos to tweak the video setting just right for streaming movies but once you have them dialed in movies look AMAZING!! Dolby Vision a great addition to the Disney+ app and some others that use them. I no longer use my 4K Firestick since the smart TV has it all there and then some! Only regret: not grabbing the 65” version since it has 3x the dimming zones. Since this TV is in bedroom and viewing angle is directly in front there is no issue with viewing from the side but if using in large room you may not get as great of an experience if not straight on - washes out as the viewing angle gets wider. OVERALL: No need to shell out the extra $500+ for TV’s that risk burn in and still can’t match this TV’s vivid and deep colors for your New Gen XBOX. PRO TIP: Make sure you enable advanced HDMI and use the HDMI 2.1 to get all the features in your new gen XBox.
