Best of the Nugget Ice Makers!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We love this machine! We previously owned the GE Opal - which was $200 more than this icemaker. The GE Opal worked for 12 months and quit in month 13. I tried several options to have it repaired/replaced - but it was out of warranty and, when the repair man came - he said there were no parts to replace and the only option was to get a whole new machine. I really loved having that ice!! But I refused to buy another of the same product - especially as I had read many people had this same experience. SO in my research for another - I found this Insignia - and it is PERFECT! It costs less, it fits a little better on our counter, it makes great ice fast, and the ice stays frozen forever - even overnight when I turn the machine off! It is even way less trouble to clean (fast and easy one button) than the Opal! PLUS - I love that I could add 4 year warranty protection thru the Geek Squad... just in case :-) We are so happy!! To keep it running great: use only distilled water and run cleaning cycle regularly. But buy one today - you won't regret it!!

Best money ever spent
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I LOVE OUR ICE MACHINE!!!!!! This machine has been cranking out ice daily since we bought it. I need to have my drinks ice cold constantly. It does make yummy crunchy "good ice" if that's what you're in search for. This is perfect if you are wanting the crunchy ice like what they offer at AMPM gas stations or at Sonic. They are slightly bigger in size than sonic but believe me, you're still getting the nugget "good ice" that everyone loves but not many establishments offer (though they all seriously need to). It's worth the money. Truly, glad I took the plunge and purchased this as I'm using it daily and has made this summer so much more tolerable as I have ice drinks every day. My only recommendation, if you want a good supply of ice through the day, fill it up in the morning and just have it run through the day. Fill the reservoir when needed. We also use our filtered water as it makes the ice taste better than if it were tap (ick!)

Good ice, fails after 6-12m
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is great - when it worked. Ice was super crunchy and made drinks fun. However after about 1 year it started to wear out. It made intense squeaking and “howling” sounds. Best Buy was awesome and swapped it with a new one, but same issue after 4months. Very much recommend the extended warranty on this unit.

JUNK! Do Not Buy!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Insignia pellet icemaker is junk and only lasted six months. A quick overview: • This Insignia pellet ice maker started making loud noises and leaking water after six months • I took it to Best Buy to have fixed under the one year manufacture warranty • Best Buy refused to send it in because I dented the cover while transporting it to the store and said that voided the warranty • Looking through the air vents in the case, it was clearly visible to the naked eye that water has been leaking for a long time and obviously couldn’t have been caused by a dent in the cover. • This Insignia ice maker is not repairable and is not durable. • Best Buy owns Insignia and neither will honor their warranty • Best Buy management and employee said it was my fault and told me 3 times that I should have purchased the extended warranty then there wouldn’t be a problem. If the won’t stand by the manufactures warranty, I doubt they will stand by the extended warranty. Employee and manager were not very helpful. Fortunately, this experience happened before we started shopping for major appliances for my Mother in Law and I have been able to steer her away from purchasing at Best Buy or purchasing any Insignia brand products. I ended up purchasing the Opal Ice Maker from Amazon... (I'm never making major purchases from Best Buy again.) While more expensive, the Opal Ice Maker is far superior in quality, is quieter, and is overall just a better product.

Great product; NOT Sonic Ice/same as GE Opal
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Machine is great, but just wanted to let people know that the ice isn’t exactly the same as the GE Opal or Sonic Ice. It’s a bit more solid and dense, not as soft and munchie, but still munch-able. Also noise is about 50 db (quiet conversation) while making ice. Family loves it though.

Great addition to our kitchen.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to set up and clean. Doesn’t take up alot of space and produces ice quickly! I had ice in minutes. It’s little crunchy ice that is so good to nibble on. Only one complaint is that it is pretty loud. But I can take a little noise compared to the other machine that is several hundred dollars more.

Great Ice Machine.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this little ice maker. It's a bit noisy, but this whole lack of ice our house is a point of contention. I got so tired of filling up ice trays, etc. since the kids like to crunch and chew ice. This is perfect because the nuggets crunch easy and quite frankly, these are the best ice nuggets ever, I swear they make everything you drink better.

Q: QuestionDoes this make ice as good as Sonic? A bit nervous buying this with so few reviews.
Asked by Justin.
- A:Answer It’s close but not the same. Check out the review I just wrote. If you want the exact same as Sonic ice, buy the GE Opal

Q: QuestionInstructions are not clear on this. When I first run cleaning cycle on new machine, do I place water in the lower chamber? If so, how much. Instructions say to clean cycle before using but doesn't mention water... Thx!
Asked by CLK1006.
- A:Answer I'm assuming since it's been a month you've figured this out. For others, yes, fill with water, run cleaning cycle, drain by removing both tubes from back of machine and pulling the plug that's attached to both tubes. Make sure to wipe out water area. Oh, the little white ramp/perforated filter in the bottom of the water bin....pop that off and wipe out the water inlet underneath there. If you don't, it will get gunked up!
