Not that I had thought about what this album might sound like, but this album caught me off guard, and I love it. Alter Bridge changed their sound in this album, while building on the progressiveness that we first saw in Fortress. With a great mix of tempos and dynamics, and the superb, unrestricted songwriting of these four artists, The Last Hero keeps you on your toes. My top four (in no order) are: My Champion, Cradle to the Grave, This Side of Fate, and Island of Fools. Island of Fools hits you like a ton of bricks and I think it's their best up-tempo, heavy song to date. With this effort, Alter Bridge further solidifies themselves in a class of their own when it comes to American hard rock/metal of the 21st century.

A decent album from such an underrated band. It hits on all tones of hard rock.

With Last Hero, Alter Bridge keeps up their legacy of innovative metal albums that are solid from start to finish. Aside from their initial album, which didn't differentiate enough from the Creed sound, every Alter Bridge album since has been exceptional, and Last Hero is NO exception to this rule. While the Last Hero doesn't quite reach the stellar quality of Blackbird, I would definitely say it is on par with ABIII - both of which have long been albums that I go back to on a regular basis. Much like the aforementioned albums, there's a great variety in the songs on Last Hero and Myles Kennedy's vocals are, as always, among the best in today's metal genre.
