27GL850 but $50 cheaper!
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Uses the exact same panel as the legendary LG 27GL850 but without the USB hub making it $50 cheaper! The 27GL850 is easily one of the best, if not the best, 27" 1440p gaming panel. It matches or exceeds other monitors in clarity of motion (grey to grey response times) and color accuracy at a sub $500 price level (the Viewsonic Elite XG270QG, ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ, and Gigabyte Aorus FI27Q-P are all $600 or more at the time of this review - and shamefully that Gigabyte model is the third of a product line that didn't actually add DisplayPort 1.4 until that Q-P model). Anyone looking for a premium gaming monitor should look no further as not only is it the best panel, it's at the best price by far. Still can't believe I got this at $449 when the actual 27GL850 (last year's model) is extremely hard to find and going for upward of $600 as well. If I had the extra money, I would buy two more of these.

Great, bright, clear, large!
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I bought two of these 27-GN850’s and got them installed about a week ago. These replace 2 22” Dell monitors, so the larger size is definitely a change - and a welcome one at that. The screens are sharp and bright. There’s a very small amount of back-light bleed when blacks are present in the corner, but not anywhere near enough to bother me at all. I like that the monitors support Display Port and 2 HDMI’s. I use my Surface Laptop 3 for both work and pleasure, through a Surface Dock 2 and to each monitor via USB-C to Display Port cables. I also run my Xbox Series S through a sound bar, then to the left monitor via HDMI - all is mostly good. I couldn’t get my Xbox to force 1440p at all (regardless of refresh rate), even though the monitor supports 1440p. The monitor does accept 4K signal, though, so I have my Xbox running at 4K-60hz in the settings. I would chalk this up as an Xbox issue, not a monitor issue. My biggest issue is that the included monitor stands are so ridiculously huge and awkward that they really don’t work well for a standard PC desk. You can see in the second picture that the majority of the back of the stand is actually hanging off my desk. Good thing there’s a wall there to keep it from falling. It was either that or have the monitors leaning off the front of the the desk and risk them tipping over off the front. Again, HUGE stands. I highly recommend either having a large desk with a good surface area or figure out another way to mount the monitors on maybe a VESA stand or some other solution. I may look into doing this myself in the near future. The stands aren’t wobbly, they’re heavy and sturdy, so I don’t worry about stability, they just take up A LOT more room than you’d expect. Oh, and don’t be fooled by the “adjustable height”, these stands don’t go down near as far as you’d hope - my Dell monitor stands put these stands to shame in that regard. Anyway, good monitors, crisp, clear, bright, great quality, heavy duty but awkward stands and good selection of inputs. Very satisfied. I recommend the monitors for the monitor aspect if you can deal with the stands being what they are or find a different mounting solution!

Thicc stand
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality4 out of 5Value4 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5I like everything about this monitor, picture quality, all the specs, etc, EXCEPT its stand is really bulky and long in the back. If you have a big single level desk then no worries, but I have a second shelf level on my desk and, since the stand is so bulky and long, I couldn't fit it on the main level. Way too close to my face and was pushing into my keyboard and mouse area. I had to put it on the shelf level and put the monitor down as low as it will go, which is still a little high and I have to look up a bit for. Might have to cut my shelf in half, still figuring out what I want to do. It feels unnecessary too, like there's just empty space in the stand so it's excess length and bulk is purely cosmetic and not functional. Other than that, performance wise it's great.

Best monitor for gaming
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5One of the best monitors I ever used. Going from 1080p to 1440p makes a world of difference. From 70hz to 144hz is like night and day too. With gsync I get no screen tearing. Works wonders with rtx3070 graphics card.

Excellent for Xbox One X
|Posted .Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Bought this monitor to replace the BenQ EX2780Q which is nearly identical on specs and price. My issue with the BenQ was the non adjustable stand and overall image quality. I don't like to tinker with settings too much but I could only find one usable color setting with it. This LG has 5 that I like and could use without issue. The stand is fully adjustable and well built. The whole monitor just looks great. I'm able to use 1440p at 120hz on the Xbox One X and everything is crisp and runs buttery smooth. I cannot recommend this monitor enough

Great monitor for PS5
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5First IPS panel I have ever had and wow is it a great difference in colors compared to TN panels. I also have a Dell S2719DGF and out of the box without changing anything it beats the configured Dell in looks and viewing angles don’t change how great it looks. Also it works out of the box with the PS5 at 4K @ 60Hz even thought it’s a 1440p. Also after placing it on performance mode does 1080p @ 120Hz without messing with the monitor or even turning off free sync. The LG is on the left of the picture.

Q: QuestionWhat's the difference between this and the GL850-B? All the specs look the same, only difference I see is the name GN850 instead of GL850
Asked by Jason.
- A:Answer Hi Jason. The "N" in the model number for the LG 27'' UltraGear™ QHD Nano IPS 1ms 144Hz G-SYNC Compatible Gaming Monitor, Model # 27GN850-B identifies its year of development as 2020 and the "L" in the model number for the LG 27GL850 27'' UltraGear™ Nano IPS 1ms Gaming Monitor with G-Sync® Compatibility identifies it as a 2019 model. The differences between the monitors is that the 2020 model does not have the USB Up-Stream (ver 3.0) and 2 x USB Down-Stream (ver 3.0) ports...^IFV

Q: QuestionDoes 4k or HDR have the larger impact on picture quality. Monitors with both seem excessively high and neither tech is new. My 55" TV wasn't that high in price and it has both.
Asked by HMDude.
- A:Answer The HDR on this monitor is technically there but you will not be able to notice it. Plus the 1ms thing, while technically achievable is of no use in games because of picture distortion. The real number whilst still being able to see everything properly is around 4.65ms which is still pretty impressive. Lastly there is a huge difference between 4k and 1440p on a large tv screen, there is not on a 27 inch monitor. 1440p looks amazing on a good monitor like this one. Just forget about HDR on this monitor, it's not happening.

Q: QuestionThis monitor have hdmi 2.1 port?
Asked by Angie.
- A:Answer No, this has HDMI 2.0, which is sufficient because it’s only a 1440 display. HDMI 2.1 is for up to 4k at 120hz or 8k at 60hz with high dynamic range support. If you’re getting a 4k/8kdisplay, then absolutely make sure it has HDMI 2.1, but for this monitor, it’s not needed to use max spec capability of the monitor.

Q: QuestionDoes this monitor pair well with a RTX 2070 Super while using its display port for 144hz 1440p gaming?
Asked by Inferno.
- A:Answer Yes I have it paired with a 2070 and the G-sync compatibility is smooth as butter. You can check some reviews online for the 27GL850 as it's the same panel the GN850 just lost the USB ports.
