Versitile tool, questionable reliability
|Posted .This is the third Surface device purchased in the last 5 years. The first one was the original (smaller, less powerful) Surface. The second one failed after less than 2 years - and could not be repaired - which forced this purchase. That said, this is one of the most versatile portable tools I have ever used. it is as powerful as my desktop computer in my main office and provides everythingI need for file access, presentations, and general work while on the road. The fact that I have come back to this product - and to BestBuy - three times is an additional endorsement.

Lovin' my Surface Pro 6!
|Posted .I like everything about my Surface Pro 6. I ordered it with keyboard, mouse, pen, and the full version of MS Office. Probably the only thing I really miss is a numeric keypad but that could be an add-on option. I have yet to find a limitation to the options I chose (8 GB RAM and 128 GB HD). I highly recommend this combination.

Perfect laptop for anyone.
|Posted .I bought this one to replace my SP4 that worked very well. I've been a fan of these since that purchase. I love it for school. I love it for home. It works. excellent in any environment. I get a glass screen protector for when I use the pen just in case because I don't want to mess up the screen. I'd recommend this to anyone who doesn't own an apple because the app store is completely different. But anyone constantly on the go will benefit from this due to its versatility and light weight. I only gave it 4 stars because I wanted the black one but it only came with 256 gb SSD but with so many microSD cards, and an external hard drive, I don't need that much internal storage. It bothers me that they just couldn't make it in black or other colors regardless of the software. Hopefully in the future they start offering different color Surface Pros.

Good product

Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5I like the materials used on it but it lacks alittle bit on the performance side, it is very laggy even on YouTube. When I try going to full screen it lags for about 2 seconds, when watching my favorite streamers it becomes more laugh, even the on screen keyboard lags so much.

Spent 5 years forcing a Samsung platform
|Posted .Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Stupid title, so let me explain. I've been attempting to unify on the Samsung platform (phone, tablet, laptop) since 2014 with varying degrees of success. The laptop is always the weak spot, with the tablet being a close second. Having had every Samsung Tab S series tablet, most recently the S5e, I finally gave up as the glitches continue to grow. I've resisted the move to the Surface for a number of reasons. It has always been at least one, if not two generations of CPU behind, low memory, expensive storage, and slow. Most recently the lack of USB-C and the proprietary charger. My wife owned a Surface 2 and used it daily as a reader, web browser, and email station. But I thought, coming from IT, I needed more. Well after my S5e frustration I broke down and bought the Pro 6 i5 (8th gen) 128 and gave up my Samsung quest for unification. Important points: The Surface integrates flawlessly with my Samsung S10plus. For me the pen is a little used device, while the keyboard is essential. I have yet to have to wait for the system to catch up to my interactions, and all programs seem to work as flawlessly as my desktop. I hate the proprietary charger, but it is fast and works. (if Microsoft switches to magnetic USB-C, I will sell mine and switch instantly) Boot time with the Samsung Tab S3, S4 and S5e were all well in excess of 30 seconds (up to 84 seconds with DEX turned on), the Surface boots to face recognition within 5 seconds, and instantly recognizes my face in good lighting (add reading glasses, a hat, or anything not in the facial recognition set up image and you'll be going to your pin login out of frustration. I'm not a graphic artist, nor am I doing renders on my tablet, so any belief that I needed a faster CPU was put to bed with regular use. The majority of my use is Office apps, web browsing, email, and a few mid range productivity apps, all of which the Surface shine in performance. Kickstand - It is great, but not perfect as when sitting on your lap, or belly if laying down. I bought the Flippy multi-angle soft pillow off Amazon and it is a perfect compliment. I also bought the Surface mouse and it never came out of the box. I'm in complete agreement with most on build quality. This thing is solid, quiet, fast, and easily outperforms any Samsung, Acer, ASUS, or any other tablet I've owned. Screen resolution is amazing, touch response with a Zagg glass screen protector takes a bit more pressure, but I'll never use a tablet without a glass screen protector. Also put on the Kensington Black Belt 2nd degree case which increases the weight a lot, but it is an amazing protective case. After buying this Surface Pro 6 I sold my laptop, an action I never saw coming.

The pennicle of portable computing
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI'm astonished by this piece of marvel as a both a software developer and an IT infrastructure specialist who formally worked in computer hardware maintenance. I already own a workstation to carry over all the huge work-load. but I need something I can take to a library that will have the full computing power of a normal computer, despite the fact I sometimes find myself carrying a workstation notebook computer for work and need a super light solution to tuck along with it. the Surface Pro i5 addressed all my needs and had only one short coming that I'm willing to live with. Pros addressed (Power modes) - Battery saver turns this unit operational for multiple days of usage! or 1 full day non-stop operation used this while travelling, browsing and light editing of photos I took (~10 hours per charge) - Standard Performance gives you the power of a dual core laptop (yes really) anything from compiling code, bulk editing photos or music, heavy office multi tasking etc. the RAM can handle it like knife through warm butter. - Max Performance - I call this the Emergency Switch as I believe this should never be used outside the purposes of 4K Rendering, Heavy Duting Data restructuring, Whenever you find yourself doing something you're not supposed to be doing on a laptop, such as gaming, 4k professional rendering, CAD designs, heavy framework and AI projects. you'll need this mode. you MUST get the i7 Fan powered version to use this mode. I cannot stress this enough YOU MUST. because the i5 version is FANLESS and will reach a 100c in ~15 minutes of operation. Make sure you know upfront what is your intent of the Surface you buy. do you want a better energy machine for everyday work. or you want a hardcore 3D design monster, filmmaking, or DJ at a party. is this your full-powered workstation unit? or a library / café companion?. As library companion I have went through dozens of laptops (don't judge me) from macbook pro, to Lenovo Yoga Pro, and macbook air. you will NOT find an even near equivalent of this master-piece. I firmly believe that Windows 10 entirely was built to work for this machine.

Excellent upgrade choice
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI've been a traditional laptop user for many years, I bought my most recent laptop in 2010 as a top of the line Samsung (i7, 1tb HDD, dedicated graphics, ect). It served me well and last me through college, and my first major job. As I've settled into my new position, now years later, i'm noticing there is a significant slow down even opening a browser or spreadsheet. Im meetings or on the go it's pretty apparent that my needs are evolving and lunking around a 9lb laptop isn't feasible. Que in the Surface Pro. A few of the guys use SP4 which i've admired for its slim build and overall sleekness. I've had reservations about the amount of a power that a 'tablet' could truly possess but i've been met with "just try it". A couple weeks ago the internal battery died on my laptop and I figured now was the time to upgrade. So while shopping at BB the guy recommended I look into the ultra portable SP6 as they were on sale. I'M GLAD I DID. This thing is amazing. It hits all the right points. Its light, very responsive, and has windows 10 loaded right out the box. A few settings changes later and i'm back to normal. Being windows based any program I needed is compatible, The battery life is amazing. Speakers are great, The type cover feels great when typing and using the touch pad is simple. I've even managed to get a little light gaming done in my off time. You may want to consider i7 16gb SP or a SB for video or music editing TLDR; this is the perfect all around 2:1 for anyone looking to break into the scene and replace an existing laptop.

Q: QuestionSo I have a Mac. It is starting to run really slow. I was looking for something new. I just need something to be able to pay my bills with, and check emails. I also need to be able to use a printer with it also. Is this good enough for that?
Asked by Nikki.
- A:Answer Nikki, a Surface Pro is a full computer capable of handling just about anything you can throw at it, even the lower priced model you're looking at. The only thing you are giving up with this model is storage space, but there's so much cloud storage available now it's hardly an issue. I work in IT and have seen numerous Mac users who switched over to the Surface that have been amazed with the versatility of the Surface Pro when compared to the MacBook Pro. You'll love it. There are lots of guides online that will help make the transition easier. Just do a search for switching from Mac to Surface.
