The NETGEAR CM500V Cable Modem for Internet & Voice provides a connection to high-speed cable Internet with speeds up to 680 Mbps and supports 2 phone lines. It is CableLabs certified DOCSIS 3.0 that is 16X faster than 2.0 devices. A Gigabit Ethernet port provides faster access and downloads.
Q: Will this work with optimum cable?
A: The CM500 is on the approved modem list for optimum. The "V" in this model is for voice and would only be needed if optimum would be providing home phone service as well.
A: Yes. Per the guidelines on there website it should work but you will want to call them as soon as you are ready to set it up just to make sure everything goes smoothly. They are going to ask for the MAC address which can be found on the box. Try and follow the directions as to avoid any issues with setup. Remember if you have voice service it wont work until you add the new equipment to your mediacom account. So if and when you do call them use your cell phone. Also make sure they add the correct model since the same model is available without the V or voice option. When I added the cm500v tp my parents account the xfinity rep forgot the "V" which was frustrating to get fixed. Overall it's a great inexpensive device that gets rid of the monthly fee that you have to pay your provider. Good luck and it's really easy to setup so you shouldn't have any issues.
Q: Will this modem, Netgear CM500V, work with the Cisco Linksys E2500 router?
A: It works with any router. Just plug the ethernet cable directly from the cable modem into the WAN port of the router.
A: They are 1 and the same. The V at the end of CM500V designates Voice over IP. There is a CM500 that does not VOIP capabalites. I hope this helps.
Q: will this work with Comcast xfinity internet?
A: Yes. This is what I purchased. It is a DOCSIS 3.0 (not 3.1) so it won't support the highest Xfinity rate available. (It can support the 600Mbs, not 1000Mbs or 1 Gb) but it is much faster than most any device you can stream with wirelessly. It was well worth the $100 I paid for it and will pay for itself in a year rental fees. My old 5 year Arris modem topped out at 130Mbs. It also is one of the few that support voice - if you use Xfinity for your home phone.
A: If your PC has a network port, then you could plug the supplied network cable in to Ethernet port. But if your intentions are for more that one computer that are wireless like phone/Tables/Laptops, then you need to purchase a separate wireless router to plug into the Ethernet port.
Q: Will this work with my Linksysis E1000 router?
A: Yes. It will work.
Q: Would this work with optimum cable provider and asus wireless router?
A: The CM500V is compatible with Optimum. Keep in mind you only need to get this model if you buy voice service through Optimum. Apparently almost any DOCSIS 3.0 modem works with Optimum.
