Seems to be a good modem
||Posted .It's very hard to find a modem without WiFi that also has the phone service (which is what I wanted), however this one absolutely does the trick. Everything seems to be going great so far. No more rental fees for the equipment and no more of WiFi running on the Comcast Gateway even though I turned WiFi off. The latter is one of the main reasons I wanted a new modem without WiFi. It was still running WiFi (the light on Gateway was off, but in the actual Gateway settings it kept showing it was running a hidden WiFi signal). I have my own router that is much better than the Gateway from Comcast and I don't want their WiFi signals interfering with my router. Set up was a breeze. The instructions say you must call Comcast to activate it, but that was not true for me. I was able to activate it by launching the web browser and the set up screen to activate it popped up. It gives you an option to sign in with your Comcast email to activate or use your Comcast account number. If I remember correctly, there was also another option, but I can't remember what it was. Also, be sure to restart your modem before hooking your router up to it because in my case I just unhooked the modem from running directly into the computer and plugged it in to the router and booted the router up and it would not work. I'm guessing this was a MAC address issue since it was originally directly connected to the computer. Once I restarted the modem and hooked it up to my router, everything was fine.

Great product ?
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Installed a couple days ago along with a eero router. Sales person at Best Buy said it would be "super easy to install - probably complete in 30 minutes or less". He didn't realize (although I told him) we were dealing/communicating with Comcast/Xfinity. After about 4 1/2 hours on the phone with Comcast and being told they loaded the wrong equipment into my account and it would not be operational for 24 hours-"call back tomorrow" I decided to try to load it myself through the my account/Xfinity program (a couple hours later). With a quick phone call to Netgear and a quick call to eero I was up and running - Netgear and eero are GREAT to work with - Comcast SUCKS!! I would recommend this to a friend if they did NOT have to deal with Comcast - otherwise I would not recommend to my enemy.....

Good unit for basic service
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Used for new xfinity voice/internet service. Worked very well. Had initial issues of modem every morning dropping out and having to be reset. Called NETGEAR support ran some tests and said signal strength from xfinity was to high. Xfinity came and checked it out and put filter on line and signal strength still to high so they found issue with amplifier on the Main line which they fixed. Been trouble free since then. Modem seems to be a good choice for basic service

||Posted .Owned for 1 year when reviewed.Due to AT&T no longer able to support our landline phone we were forced to switch to VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) for our home phone. This necessitated our purchase of this product -- we had to replace our existing modem with a voice-capable modem. This modem seems to work fine and the price was right -- not as expensive as some of the other voice-capable modems that Best Buy sells.

The CM500V is Great Cable Modem
||Posted .After we switched from ATT to Comcast Xfinity, we needed a new modem. A quick note about why we switched. We decided to scrap our basic TV service and move to streaming TV. At best, ATT only could get up to 25-50 mbps speed, which resulted in frequent wifi slow downs and interruptions. We are currently are at a minimum of 100 mbps speed, and so far no problems at all! We also had an Orbi router to handle our WiFi, and we needed a modem that worked with both internet and voice/phone. The NETGEAR CM500V - 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - provides the connection to high-speed cable Internet with speeds up to 680 Mbps and supports 2 phone lines. As a DOCSIS 3.0 version, it is 16X faster than 2.0 devices. A Gigabit Ethernet port provides faster access and downloads. It was interesting that when the Comcast service agent came to hook us up, he said we had one of the best systems he has seen. The system works great . . . no down time and no slow downs!! And I don't have to pay the monthly rental fees, and in one year, we will have paid for the unit!! Hopefully this great performer will continue to perform for many years.

Awesome router for streaming
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.I wanted to get away from rental fees and bog downs from using the cable company's equipment. I went into bestbuy and told them that I need a router that can handle 4 fire sticks, 3 laptops, a playstation and multiple phones. They recommended this router and it's fantastic. No issues at all with buffering and no background snow when the connection was poor enough to play but not buffer. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a exactly what I was.

Q: QuestionWill this work with optimum cable?
Asked by SLONAK5.
- A:Answer The CM500 is on the approved modem list for optimum. The "V" in this model is for voice and would only be needed if optimum would be providing home phone service as well.

Q: QuestionIs the Netgear CM500V compatible with Mediacom cable and phone service. Also I plan to use a Netgear N900 router with this modem
Asked by Beachdog.
- A:Answer Yes. Per the guidelines on there website it should work but you will want to call them as soon as you are ready to set it up just to make sure everything goes smoothly. They are going to ask for the MAC address which can be found on the box. Try and follow the directions as to avoid any issues with setup. Remember if you have voice service it wont work until you add the new equipment to your mediacom account. So if and when you do call them use your cell phone. Also make sure they add the correct model since the same model is available without the V or voice option. When I added the cm500v tp my parents account the xfinity rep forgot the "V" which was frustrating to get fixed. Overall it's a great inexpensive device that gets rid of the monthly fee that you have to pay your provider. Good luck and it's really easy to setup so you shouldn't have any issues.

Q: Questionwill this work with Comcast xfinity internet?
Asked by Tresa.
- A:Answer Yes. This is what I purchased. It is a DOCSIS 3.0 (not 3.1) so it won't support the highest Xfinity rate available. (It can support the 600Mbs, not 1000Mbs or 1 Gb) but it is much faster than most any device you can stream with wirelessly. It was well worth the $100 I paid for it and will pay for itself in a year rental fees. My old 5 year Arris modem topped out at 130Mbs. It also is one of the few that support voice - if you use Xfinity for your home phone.

Q: QuestionThis modem does not come with a SSID and password ( atleast the one I bought did not have one ), so how I connect it to my computer after I hook it up, if I am not using a router ?
Asked by Maddy23.
- A:Answer If your PC has a network port, then you could plug the supplied network cable in to Ethernet port. But if your intentions are for more that one computer that are wireless like phone/Tables/Laptops, then you need to purchase a separate wireless router to plug into the Ethernet port.

Q: QuestionWould this work with optimum cable provider and asus wireless router?
Asked by Carol.
- A:Answer The CM500V is compatible with Optimum. Keep in mind you only need to get this model if you buy voice service through Optimum. Apparently almost any DOCSIS 3.0 modem works with Optimum.
