Q: Are the ports programmable independently ie turn on and turn off for extra security

A: No. This is an inexpensive switch that simply broadcasts all traffic on all ports without any intelligence. If you want to implement port security, I use MAC address filtering. Although there are people that can spoof a MAC address, because is not that common I’m willing to accept the risk. If you have the money and want to manage a switch, you can start with a Cisco – SF200 for $700. At work, I use Cisco 3560X at $3000 each.

Q: Is this compatible with an Apple Computer (Imac and Ipad)?

A: Yes this is compatable with any ethernet connection.
