Q: Is this a wide angle lens for the DX5100?
A: It is a DX lens, it should work on the 5100. As far as wide angle; it is very close to the 18-55mm lens that comes with most Nikon cameras. It is much heavier but with the f2.8 aperture it is a faster lens and the pictures are noticeably sharper; particularly if you blow up and/or crop your pictures.
