A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G is a FX-format lens that helps you to create beautiful bokeh images with both DX and FX-format camera bodies. This compact lens is super fast and designed to capture wide-angle, perspective images that are simply amazing.
A: Your D3100 does not have an autofocus motor. It will require lenses that have that motor built-in. Nikon denotes these type of lenses with an AF-S (or more recently, and AF-P). Since this lens is an AF-S type lens, it does have Nikon's Silent Wave Autofocus Motor incorporated in it. It will work, with autofocus, on the D3100. Just a note, AF-P type lenses, while they contain Nikon's new Pulse AF motor, they will NOT work on the D3100.

Nice Nikki’s lens
I have already purchased a lot of Nikon lunch from Best Buy and this is so far the best I have ever had. At this price, it gives you the fast auto focus on your camera . It is not too wide on your camera and it gives you 28 mm wide angle so most of the pictures won’t have a two large or too small or too wide problem.

Great Value
I bought the lens for my Nikon D800. I use it mostly for landscapes but have used it for some close up photos, as well. Very little, if any, distortion around the edges. A great lens for a reasonable price.

Awesome Lens
This is an awesome lens. I own the 35mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/1.8 and decided to invest in myself by purchasing this awesome lens. It was worth the extra bucks. While there I can't say anything negative about the 35mm or the 50mm lens, the 28mm gives me a better quality all around photograph/product for the kind of photography I'm doing.
