A: The 757 accommodates two pairs of zone2 speakers, zone2A and zone2B. The 656 only accommodates one pair of zone2 speakers. The A/B switch on the 757 allows you to turn both zone2A and zone2B off, play only zone2A, play only zone2B or play both zone2A and zone2B. On the 656 the single pair of zone2 speakers are either on or off. On both receivers you can only use the zone2 functions if you use 5.1 sound in the main listening room. The two amplifiers that are not used in the main listening room are used for zone2. If you use 7.1 sound in the main listening room then then all seven of the amplifiers are used in the main listening room and zone2 is not available.
Q: Does this receiver have an graphic equalizer? Or, does it just have preset sound modes?
A: Great question... The answers is yes. You have the option for presets, as well as designing your own presets via an onboard digital equalizer.
Q: Where do I get speakersThey are not mentioned
A: What do you mean where do I get speakers they are not mentioned? You can buy any speaker/make that you like up to 7 plus 2 subs.
A: Sure. Power specification that you see for speakers (measured in watts) is referring to how much power the speaker is designed to safely receive from an amplifier before it will start to distort. Onkyo rates their receivers at 6 ohms impedance [i guess to make them look better ]. At 8 ohms impedance the 180w/channel txnr 757 is actually making 127watts/channel. the txnr 646 rated at 170 watts/channel at 6 ohms but is making closer to 110 watts/channel at 8 ohms.
Q: How do I use the Dolby Atmos technology? When I change listening modes "Atmos" is never a choice.
A: Go into your settings and set it to 5.1.2, 7.1.2 or whichever you want. Any of the ones ending in .2 are atmos. You should check out the manual.
Q: Can I use my old 5.1 speakers to 7.2 onkyo 656 receiver?
A: Yes as long as your old 5.1 speakers are rated to handle the power.
A: DID YOU USE THE CALIBRATION SETUP. TRY THAT IT MIGHT SOUND BETTER. IT HAS TO ADJUST TO YOUR ROOM SETTINGS. IF YOU MOVE SPEAKERS AROUND YOU HAVE TO RECALABRATE.
