Q: what kind of glasses are needed to watch the 3-D? I assume they are passive similar to the movie theatre. Does it recognize a 3-D signal automatically?

A: Actually, this projector does not work with Passive 3D glasses; it uses DLP-Link glasses. Depending on the quality of glasses, they link up pretty quickly after you turn them on when a 3D source is playing and you have line of sight to the screen.

    Q: the difference betwween UHD51A and UHD51ALV please,thks.

A: there are 2 main differences from what I can see. the most obvious is the Optoma UHD51ALV is rated at 3,000 lumens vs. 2,400 for the UHD51A. in Optoma literature, the "LV" in the model number stands for lights on viewing. the other difference that I can see is the color wheel on UHD51ALV is utilizing RGBWRGBW type, while UHD51A shows RGBRGB color wheel.

Q: I have a 1:235 screen. Can this projector project in the 235 format or will it only project in the 16x9 format. I ultimately worried that if I watch a 235 movie in the full size of my screen I will have large black bars above and below my screen

A: It does not have capability to project in anamorphic 2.35:1. It can project the letterboxed image on your 2.35:1 screen and have the black bars outside the screen. It has a 1.3 zoom, so theoretically you can zoom the lens in and out to switch between 16:9 and 2.35:1, but you'd have to do the zooming manually each time since it doesn't have lens memory.

Q: Does this one have The tru Motion setting ? Unlike the uhd50

A: actually I think I know the answer. though Optoma calls it "Puremotion", yes according to their spec sheet on the site, UHD51A has MEMC or pure motion

Q: The warranty on this projector is 2 Years right? The specifications mentions 90 days. I believe it should be 2 years parts and labor 90 days lamp?

A: according to the Optoma web site, it is a 2 year warranty. 90 days is on the lamp only. many DLP manufactures have less warranty on the lamps because people misuse them I guess. I have a 3 year old UHD50 (not 4K, 1080P) and though I use it about 35-40 hours a week, never had any issue with the original lamp. https://www.optoma.com/us/product/uhd51a/ look at the bottom of this page hope that helps

    Q: any release date ?

A: I hear it is any day now this new model will be available, as there was some press from tuesday on the internet saying the products are shipping now from optoma. I dound this article. https://www.optoma.com/us/optoma-ships-worlds-first-highly-anticipated-alexa-compatible-home-theater-projector/ So should not be more than a week or so until Best buy has some stock.
