A:Answer Usually, when the battery BACK-UPS turns itself off or trips a breaker, it is due to what is known as a 'line fault'. This means that the power line is either poorly wired, or not grounded appropriately. It may be older wiring in the home. A GFI (ground fault indicator) will usually indicate this issue - any electrician should be able to tell if you lines are properly installed and up to code. Older homes built before current code experience this more commonly, but do-it-yourself wiring or shoddy workmanship can also be to blame. Any creatures that may be chewing exposed wires or damages to wiring through other means can cause this as well.
