QuestionCan the WF-7840 print a black/white document if it's out of color ink? Does anyone know the steps to do this?

- Answer Hi Robert, If you send a print job to the WF-7840 and a messages pops up on your Windows computer saying the printer is out of black ink, cancel the print, then open the printer driver settings menu, select Black/Grayscale and resend the print job. Printing with one or more expended color cartridges works with plain paper and envelopes. Instructions for Macs are in the WF-7840s user's guide. We recommend replacing expended cartridges as soon as possible to prevent ink drying around the nozzles and potentially damaging the print head. Regards, Mark - The Epson Team.

QuestionI have recently updated my computer to Windows 11 and now I can not get the WF 7840 printer to scan. I have Epson smart scan downloaded on my computer but when I try to scan documents the printer and computer do not seem to speak with each other. HELP

- Answer It may be a setting. When you are printing in draft versus high quality, the draft will be much lighter in color. I'd check that first.

QuestionInks iinclude four ink cartridges Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. Do you not also need photo black in addition to black? The package with all of the colors has black XL and cyan, magenta, and yellow in standard size. Are the 3 colors available in XL?

- Answer Hello Alex. Photo Black is not required as the WF-7840 is a four-color printer that only uses Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. All colors are available in both sizes, the standard capacity product SKU should be T812, and the ultra-high-capacity ink cartridges should be T812XL. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.

QuestionHow can I disable auto-detect on paper size? When I copy a small receipt or some other paper that's not exactly 8.5x11" it says it cannot detect the paper size. All I want is for it to just copy what's within the parameters and print it out without asking

- Answer I am new to this printer/scanner and had the same problem. Under SCAN SETTINGS, you can deselect AUTO MODE. In SCAN SMART, you can, you can select SCAN AREA. I found the easiest thing for me to do was to place a normal sized piece of blank paper over the smaller sized paper after placing it on the glass surface. The scanner / copier will detect the backing paper and perform as it should. I like to center the document to be copied within the boundaries of the backer sheet, or you could place it on an edge for trimming.
