QuestionCan this machine be used without internet access? HP has started requiring you to sign up on line be able to use some of the machine features such as scanning. (HP Envy)

- Answer Hi RoadKing. The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7840 does not require internet access to function. However, some features, such as scan-to-email, that require an internet connection will not work. Additionally, you will need to manually download and install the printer drivers from the official Epson Support website if you encounter problems with the installation using the included CD-ROM. QuestionDoes the copier function include reduction/enlargement of original documents? (Ex: can it enlarge and print an original drawing by 300% or 400%)

- Answer I don’t know, I returned it because the document feeder would pull multiple pages through at once, once it pulled an entire file through. It was also a huge pain to set up, it only wanted to print on paper loaded in the back and would say it was out of paper even though the 2 trays were full. Despite changing the setting from standard to legal in many different places on printer and computer it would still revert back to standard and not print the full document or at all. I returned the machine but they can’t give me that day of trying to get it working correctly back!

QuestionHow much do replacement cartridges cost?

- Answer This printer uses Epson T812 print cartridges. One standard package has 1-T812XL Black and 3-T812 Color for $79 +/- from Best Buy, Amazon, Staples, and others. Another package which is available is the T812 Black with 3-T812 Colors for $59 +/-. The T812XL Black by itself sells for $30 +/-, the Black T812XXL sells for $73 +/-. The individual color cartridges are a little hard to track down by themselves, but appear to run about $13 +/- for the standard cartridge and $30 +/- for the XL cartridges. All prices above are in USD for Epson Cartridges, remanufactured or refilled cartridges for this printer can probably be located for less.

QuestionI saw the answer about the depth with all trays closed (just under 18"). If I want to use the rear tray, going from the point of the opening of that back tray to the front of the printer (no front trays open) - what is the depth needed in that scenario?

- Answer I am using this printer with the back tray perpetually loaded. The depth from the wall to the front of the printer is 24" deep. The depth from the wall to the front of the output tray is about 36"

QuestionIf my computer only accesses 5GHz side of my dual band router, will it "see" this printer which only connects at 2.4GHz on the network?

- Answer This depends on your network configuration. The router is serving both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies so this printer should exist on the same network as your other devices as long as you are not employing AP isolation, VLANs, etc.

- Answer The depth is 18” but it goes to 23” with the #2 tray installed with 11 x 24 paper. If you want to use the back feed tray for paper it will be even more.

- Answer I have both the 7840 at the ES-580W, test set was a 4-page color document, 300 DPI scanned to emailed PDF: Epson 7840, Simplex Scan: 35 Seconds Epson 7840, Duplex Scan: 78 Seconds ES-580W, Duplex Scan: 9 Seconds I would not rely on this machine if I needed a lot of scans, the ES-580W is an excellent machine.
