Q: QuestionWhat are the precise, interior dimensions of this freezer? If there is a "step," how does that impact the cubic dimensions?
Asked by Philip.
- A:Answer Hi Philip- The interior dimensions are approximately 31.5"(W) x 15"(D) x 27.5"(H). Compressor area (hump): 7.5"(W) x 15"(D) x 9.5"(H). 7.0 Cu. Ft. is the usable space. There are many factors that contribute to the volume of food that your freezer will hold including the physical size and shape of each item. In general, a freezer will hold 30 to 35 pounds per cubic foot. The maximum amount of food that your freezer can freeze at one time is 3 pounds per cubic foot. After allowing 24 hours for that to freeze, you can then add another 3 pounds per cubic foot. We hope this is helpful! SUEatGEA

Q: QuestionIs this a frost free freezer or do I need to defrost it manually?
Asked by Gmaroni.
- A:Answer It is not frost free. I couldn't find a frost free chest freezer. GE manual, Page 5: "In most climates, defrosting will be necessary only about twice a year.To have your freezer operate most efficiently, do not permit more than 1/2" (13 mm) of frost to accumulate on the shelves." http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-60702-3.pdf

Q: QuestionWhat is the noise level in decibels? Does is come with an attachable drain hose for defrosting?
Asked by Naomi.
- A:Answer I never hear the freezer running so it's very quiet. Does not come with a drain hose. My wife defrosts by un plugging the freezer, using hair dryer to dislodge the frost and ice, and scooping it out. She then uses towels to soak up any remaining water. It takes all of 15 minutes to defrost our freezer after we empty it and unplug it. No need for the drain to be used in my opinion.

Q: QuestionIs this chest freezer noisy? I was planning to put it in the kitchen.
Asked by Choosy.
- A:Answer Hi Choosy - The types of sounds of newer freezers differ from those of older freezer models. Modern freezers have many features that older models do not have. Because of this, it is necessary to have a more powerful and higher speed compressor than the older model freezers. In addition to the compressor, other operating components perform the modernized functions found in the newer models. These components will also have sounds associated with them. Generally, once you get accustomed to the sounds of a modern freezer, it is no longer noticeable. Q: QuestionIs a standard electrical outlet sufficient for power to the freezer chest? Is a water outlet required or is electrical outlet sufficient? how much does the 7 cubic ft chest weigh? thanks
Asked by Stanford.
- A:Answer Hi Stanford - The freezer should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating plate. A 115 Volt AC, 60 Hz, 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required. This provides the best performance and also prevents overloading house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires. The freezer must be properly grounded. The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a three-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a standard three-prong (grounding) wall receptacle to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard from this appliance. Also, a water line is not required and the net weight is 75 lbs. Thanks for considering GE! Keep in touch. Sue

Q: QuestionI ordered this freezer 2 months ago and it was to be ready for pickup 2 weeks ago. I'm being told that if it's not ready for pickup by mid November that Best Buy will cancel my order for me. Why can it still be purchased if is is not actually available?
Asked by Jake.
- A:Answer I know they don’t stock it. I just received mine last week and it took awhile to receive from the manufacturer. I also received emails that it was in and delivery was scheduled twice but it wasn’t actually in. Was told by a store associate that online ordering for appliances is totally screwed up.

Q: QuestionCan this freezer be used in the garage and is the motor and compressor insulated
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer We've got the freezer in the basement, generally it hasn't gotten below 50 down there. As far as an insulated motor and compressor, its behind shielding but doesnt seem to be insulated against freezing temps

Q: QuestionJust purchased this freezer. How long does it take to get cold enough to use for the first time?
Asked by Cfrea.
- A:Answer Hi Cfrea- Upon initial installation, or when the settings on the temperature controls are changed, it usually takes 24 hours to reach the proper temperature. If the freezer is less than two-thirds full, or the freezer is opened frequently, it may take longer than 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. The maximum amount of food that your freezer can freeze at one time is 3 pounds per cubic foot. After allowing 24 hours for that to freeze, you can then add another 3 pounds per cubic foot. Thanks for choosing GE. Enjoy! SUE@GEA
