  • QuestionI bought this unit thinking that it didn't need to be attached to a window, but it appears it does. Does it need to be attached to a window or is it functional without?

    Asked by RB.

    • Answer The Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner does require a window for proper use. It includes an exhaust hose and window installation kit, which are necessary to vent hot air outside. Without this setup, the unit cannot cool effectively and may overheat. The kit is designed to fit most standard windows, making installation relatively straightforward. Patricia | Insignia Support

  • QuestionHas anyone purchased aftermarket window vents that allow the a/c to move from room to room? Insignia says they don't sell them but aftermarket units work. I bought two aftermarkets and they don't fit the insignia. Has anyone had luck with this?

    Asked by TechnicalPoweruser.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry, Insignia Customer. I understand that it’s definitely frustrating when aftermarket parts don’t quite line up, especially when you're trying to make your setup more flexible. The Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner (Model NS-AC08PWH1) uses a 5.9-inch diameter exhaust hose. You can purchase it at an aftermarkets, you just needed to take note the exact size. Tine | Insignia Products

  • QuestionCan’t seem to turn the AC on with this portable air conditioner. Only the fan runs. Does anyone know how to turn on the AC conditioner?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! If your Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner is only running the fan and not cooling, it’s likely not set to the correct mode. To activate the air conditioning function, first press the Power button to turn on the unit. Then, press the Mode button repeatedly until you reach Cool mode—this is the setting that enables actual cooling. The unit also has Fan and Dry modes, which do not cool the air. Once in Cool mode, use the temperature buttons to set your desired temperature. You can also adjust the fan speed using the Speed button. If the unit still doesn’t cool, make sure the exhaust hose is properly connected and venting hot air outside, and that the room temperature is higher than the set temperature. • QuestionIf I get a lo ger house and it goes above the unit will it still drain properly or will it turn its self off?

    Asked by Tinker.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! If you use a longer drain hose with your Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner and the hose rises above the height of the unit, it likely won’t drain properly. These air conditioners rely on gravity to expel water, so the hose must slope downward from the unit to allow for continuous drainage. If the hose is elevated, water can back up into the system, which may cause the unit to shut off automatically to prevent overflow or internal damage. In some cases, it might even trigger an error code or result in internal leaks. To avoid these issues, always ensure the drain hose runs downhill without any upward bends. Keith | Insignia Support

    Asked by Frank.

    • Answer The Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner (Model NS-AC08PWH1) comes with a window installation kit that fits window widths ranging from 18 inches to 48 inches. This adjustable range allows it to be installed in most standard horizontal-sliding or vertically-opening windows. • QuestionDoes this unit need an additional hose.for drainage while running?

    Asked by Angela.

    • Answer The Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner does not usually require an additional drainage hose while running in normal cooling or fan mode, as it uses a self-evaporation system to expel most of the moisture through the exhaust hose. However, in high humidity conditions or when using the dehumidifier mode, the internal water tank may fill up more quickly. In such cases, you may need to manually drain the unit or attach a separate drainage hose to the lower drain outlet for continuous drainage. This hose is not included with the unit, so you would need to purchase one separately if needed. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. • QuestionDoes this unit require a window?

    Asked by Renee.

    • Answer Yes, the Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner does require a window for proper operation. It comes with a window installation kit that fits vertical sliding windows between 19.4" and 62.2" wide. This kit is essential because the unit needs to vent hot air outside through an exhaust hose, which must be connected to a window. Patricia | Insignia Support

  • Questiondoes this unit evaporate the condensation automatically while it's running or do you have to empty buckets every 20 minutes or so?

    Asked by marty.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! The Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner is equipped with a self-evaporating system, which means it automatically evaporates most of the condensation it generates while cooling. This feature significantly reduces the need for manual draining under normal conditions. However, in environments with high humidity, the unit may still collect more moisture than it can evaporate, causing the internal reservoir to fill up. In such cases, you might need to manually drain the water using the bottom drain port. That said, it’s not typical to have to empty it every 20 minutes—if that’s happening, it could be due to unusually high humidity or a drainage issue.

    Asked by JimMac.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! It's generally not recommended to shorten the exhaust hose of your Insignia™ 350 Sq. Ft. Portable Air Conditioner by cutting it. The hose is designed to maintain optimal airflow and efficiency, and altering it could affect the performance of your air conditioner. Keith | Insignia Support

  • QuestionAC is blowing warm air on cool setting, spitting ice and I received a P1 code..I recently cleaned the filters and checked them today and found ice on the metal part after removing filter..I drained water from bottom but its still icing up.

    Asked by Jewel.

    • Answer You may have to let it continuously drain if you're in a high humidity environment. Also make sure you're draining the right port. One port is for the dehumidifier and one is for the cooling. You should also let it thaw out for a day while letting it drain and just run the fan setting to help it dry.

  • QuestionI have bought portable ac unit and i drained it regularly and all the drainage are secured properly but it still leaks water and i can’t figure out from where and how i can stop it

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer It's possible the fitting may have been tightened too tight and cracked. You could also try using thread tape to get a better seal on the threads of the fitting to keep it from leaking.
