A:Answer If the brushes in the front don't turn at all then the unit is defective and should be returned, repaired, or replaced depending on how long you have had it. If the brushes just don't turn when they're on your carpet then the pile on your carpet may be too high for the Roomba to work effectively. It isn't meant for use on things like shag carpet. I have a very low pile, almost industrial style area rug and it is absolutely superb for that and bumps happily over the edge cleaning just as effectively on the tile floor underneath. It picks up dog and cat hair equally well from both my long hair and short hair pets. I did have to clean the brush roller the first day I had it, but this is day 4 and I checked it again and they're fine, guess I just overwhelmed them that first day. Honestly, before you set this up for the first use you should really heavily vacuum your house so it's doing more maintenance than anything because the dust cup is pretty small, and you don't want to have to empty it 7 times the first time you use it.
