Q: QuestionI have a fiber optic internet feed. No modem, will this router work?

Q: QuestionI just setup Linksys - AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 5 Router from Linksys app. It only asked me for a Wifi name/password (don't know it is for 2.4 or 5G). After setup, I only see one band. I don't see the 5G band. Is it a problem with the router? Please help

• A:Answer Hi, dhwong48. The Linksys AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 5 (MR8300) is a mesh router. It means that the 2.4 and 5 Ghz WiFi bands are bonded in one WiFi name. You have an option to separate the bands but this will defeat the Mesh technology. Feel free to email [email protected] with other concerns.

• A:Answer I bought this router to replace a 2 year old Spectrum provided router. I was expecting soooo much more from Linksys. The coverage and Wi-Fi speeds where worse than the stock cable provider router. I returned the Linksys and bought a TP-Link ax1800 for $10.00 less and couldn’t be happier. The TP-Link router literally had 4X the speed than the Linksys, better UI, better security and setup features, and I had it up and running in about 5 minutes. Mind you, I’m not a tech newbie so I know what I was doing when setting up the Linksys and trying to get the advertised speeds and range. I have a 1850 sqft, two story, detached garage, townhouse and the TP-Link has excellent coverage and speed to all areas of the house and garage. I would highly recommend going with the TP-Link router :-)

Q: QuestionThe info in the overview says it needs to be plugged directly into modem. I have a device plugged into modem for external items like garage door, WiFi , phone device, etc. it is a name brand. Can I plugged this router into this versus modem? No room.

• A:Answer Yes, you should connect this directly to the modem or main ONT box providing internet to you house. This will act as the brain and allow you to manage any/all devices plugged into it. Then you can connect various hubs to split the signal to this router.

• A:Answer The modem receives the hard wired internet signal from the service provider, (Xfinity, or AT&T, etc...). The router takes the hard wired internet signal from the modem and sends out a wireless signal (WiFi). Sometimes the modem and router can be the same device, but typically they are separate.
