- Answer No, this one works via IR and it needs to be pointed at your equipment. If I were in your position, I'd start looking at RF models.

QuestionOrdering this as a gift for my dad and was wondering if the remote has to have the hub in order to work. I'm not very tech savvy with this kind of stuff and I'm not actually sure what the hub is supposed to do. Any information would help! Thanks!

- Answer The Harmony Ultimate One seems to work perfectly with my Hopper (Ver 2) and Joey units. You can always add any commands you want to the scrolling screen display or "teach" the Harmony by using the actual Hopper remote. I haven't found it necessary to do this yet.

- Answer I have yet to find any IR device that doesn't work. If you need Bluetooth then go with the hub as well.

- Answer The unit I purchased was just the remote, no hub. I've not found any need for the hub in my setup. Harmony Ultimate One is working perfectly for me.

- Answer The Amazon Echo and Google Home will both work with the Harmony Ultimate 1, but it does require the Harmony hub,. I have two hubs set up. One using the elite and the other using the ultimate. Also, you can only have one remote linked to one hub at a time. That remote can't be set up to multiple hubs and multiple remotes can't be set up to the same hub. You can use ifttt to make voice control work or get a smart things hub. I hope this helps.
