QuestionIs this a grey market product?I just ordered this lens, but I realized I didn't check to see if it is grey market or not. Since grey market products are not covered by the Nikon warranty, I want to make sure I am getting a legitimate US copy of this lens.

- Answer This is not a grey market item. I know this lens has a 5 year warranty and I think best buy orders from Nikon USA. It will tell you on the box when you get it.

QuestionDoes this lens work with a Nikon D800 body? Does it support the full frame sensor?

- Answer This AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens (Product 2183) is compatible with the D800 but it is a DX format lenses and therefore optimized for use on DSLRs with the smaller DX sensor. A DX lens does not transmit enough light to fill the entire FX sensor in the D800 and the D800 will switch over to DX Crop Mode when a DX lens is attached. In DX crop mode the D800’s largest available Image Size is reduced to 4,800 x 3,200 (approx. 15.3MP). A 35mm FX lens, like the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens (Product 2198), is better suited for the D800's high resolution FX sensor. For an FX format lens in a comparable price range consider the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G Standard Lens (Product 2199).

QuestionPardon my ignorance, completely new to photography - I bought the D3300 it came with the "AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 GII" lens, but to me it's kind of hard to get good picture of my babies. How does this one compares? Worth to buy?

- Answer 100% worth the buy. The 18-55mm is not going to give you that up close portrait shot that you are looking for. You have to take into account the sensor on the DX series along with the 35mm lens will be more like a 50/55mm. You can't go wrong with this lens.

QuestionNeed to take pics, sort of close (couple feet away), for posting items on line. Have a 3400 with DX 18-55 and DX 55-200. I can't seem to get a good "close up" of an item to put online. Seems to be inconsistent. So is this a good lens for that?

- Answer The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED lens has a minimum focus distance of 0.82 ft. (0.25m) and a reproduction ratio of 0.16x and will allow you to get stunning closeups with an amazing bokeh background. If you're interested in macro photography you may also want to take a look at dedicated lenses for macro, such as the AF-S AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens. The 40mm lens will allow a minimum focus distance of 0.53 ft. (0.163m) with a reproduction ratio of 1.0x, providing life-size images that are amazingly detailed.

- Answer Yes and No. It will work on the D3300, and work well. However, with a reproduction ratio of 1:6, it is not a macro lens. Try either the 85 Micro-Nikkor or the 105 Micro-Nikkor: both are outstanding... Actually, Nikon may still be running the Photog Kit (85mm micro-nikkor, 35mm f/1.8 * this lens *, and a Craftsy photo workshop) at a reduced cost. Check into it.

- Answer It is not a macro lens, and its reproduction ratio is about the same as that on the kit lens, gaining you little to no benefit for macro work. Nikon's macro lenses are labeled, "Micro-NIKKOR."

- Answer This is a very good lens for portraits/photoshoots. On a crop sensor body (DX cameras) there is a crop factor is 1.5, so this 35mm lens performs similar to how a 50mm lens performs on a full body (FX cameras). I am using this lens with the D3300 and it's a joy to shoot with. This is a good multipurpose lens (portraits, street photography, landscape, etc.). Very crisp.

- Answer On a DX camera that had a crop factor of 1.5, this 35mm lens performs as if it were 52mm.

The fast 1/8 aperture lets you shoot in lower light situations without having to rely on flash for a proper exposure and focus. You can take great portraits with the 35mm f/1.8. Finally, if you take advantage of the D7200's Full HD Video capability, the 35mm f/1.8 is an excellent choice for shooting high quality scenes due to it's fast aperture.
