QuestionIs there a place for the smart thermometer on this model ?

- Answer No, that feature is only on the more expensive model. Sorry. Wish there was but I couldn't see spending nearly double to get the thermometer. Perhaps it will be useful enough for you if you really want it. So far it hasn't been a real problem though it would make it easier to ensure proper cooking temp. We did have one roast turn out a bit under done but it was a simple matter to add a few more minutes.

QuestionCan it be powered via a regular outlet, or does it need surge protection?

- Answer It does have a basic computer system but I really don't see a need for a surge protector. Typically on high power devices such as this (hair dryers, irons, skillets, heaters...) you want to plug them straight into the outlet for safety reasons. So no, do not use a surge protector for this unit, or any of the other devices I listed above. They could pull more power than the surge protector can deliver and damage your surge protector. Just unplug it when not in use.

QuestionIs the insert dishwasher safe?

- Answer The main pot and all the accessories that come with it are dishwasher safe. The only thing you need to clean by hand is the top heating element if it gets dirty and the vent for pressure cooking. So far ours looks like new after a month or more of use. NOTE: So far the pot has been so easy to clean due to it's non stick surface we have not needed to put it in the dish washer. Even when food was well done it didn't stick. Just rinsed it with a touch of soap and dried it. But yes, it says you can put it in a dishwasher. Hope that helps.

- Answer Yes, you can do a quick release of pressure that may take several minutes and you cannot open the lid until it is safe to do so.

- Answer It comes with two grates that you can stack so you have double layer. Dependimg on size of pork chops you could easily do 3 to 4 on a single layer. And if you locked the one on upside down, you may be able to place another layer on bottom of pot ( which would be in water/ juices). See photos. 3rd & 4th show upside down connection :-)

- Answer Normally not needed if you wait for the pressure to cool down. If you are in hurry to open after pressure, you can release the pressure valve and use a large spoon to cover so that the ceiling does not get damaged in case of low ceilings
