  • QuestionI bought the Ring Battery Doorbell Plus. If someone presses the bell, will I hear it inside my home? Does it come with a chime, or will I need to buy a chime separately? I currently have a Battery-operated doorbell chime, not a hard-wired doorbell.

    Asked by pmarjun.

    • Answer Hello pmarjun. We appreciate the time you have taken to ask this question. The Ring Battery Doorbell will make an audible sound when someone presses the doorbell button, however, this will likely not be heard from inside the home. The Ring Chime allows you to hear notifications anywhere in your home when someone presses your doorbell or motion is detected. The Ring Chime is sold separately. • Questionhow long does the battery last? and how long does it take to charge after battery is low?

    Asked by Angel.

    • Answer Hi Angel. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. The battery in the Ring Battery Doorbell is designed to go months between charges under normal conditions. However, real battery life is dependent on a number of factors, such as local weather, the number of events captured, and the frequency of activation. It can take up to 10 hours to fully charge the battery. To prevent excessive activity and preserve battery life, under "Motion Settings" for your device in the Ring app, you can: Adjust your "Motion Sensitivity" slider to a lower sensitivity. Redraw your "Customizable Motion Zones." Change "Motion Frequency" to regularly or periodically. You could also adjust the direction of your Ring device so it doesn't detect as much motion. You can go to "Power Settings" in the Ring app to see what features may be draining your battery. To access "Power Settings," open the Ring app: Tap the menu (≡) on the top left of the dashboard. Tap "Devices." Tap the individual device (video doorbell or security camera) you want to check. Tap "Power Settings" to check your "Battery Level" percentage and "Feature Power Usage." Tap a feature to adjust "Snapshot Capture," "Motion Frequency," and "Video Recording Length." • QuestionCould someone (especially Ring) explain what happens below 30 degrees? Someone made it sound like it "stopped working" (what? no camera? no wifi?) as if it was fine again when it warmed up? Does plastic crack? We can get below 32 a handful of times a year

    Asked by zinya.

    • Answer Lithium Batteries below 32 degrees suffer a severe capacity reduction, an inability to to deliver high current due to slowed chemical reactions, and potential damage to the battery if charged while below freezing. The good news is that Ring should have a BMS system built in which can monitor temperatures and such.

  • QuestionWhat mount do I need to have this on an angle? My front door does not face the front of my house.

    Asked by Chrissy.

    • Answer Hi Chrissy. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us with your question. We recommend using the Ring Wedge Kit or the Ring Corner Kit for the Ring Battery Doorbell to adjust the device to your desired view. It sounds like the Ring Corner Kit would be the best option for turning the doorbell to face another direction if your door does not face the front. We have included a link here to an article on our website with more information on using a Ring Wedge Kit or Ring Corner Kit with your Ring doorbell: https://ring.com/support/articles/90tcr/Using-a-Wedge-Kit-to-Properly-Position-your-Ring-Video-Doorbell. • QuestionIf I put this in a window indoors will it capture movement outside?

    Asked by JEC.

    • Answer Hi JEC. Thank you for your question. No, the Ring Battery Doorbell was not designed to detect motion through windows or glass. The motion detection runs on passive infrared sensors and identifies visitors via a moving heat signature. We recommend installing the doorbell on the exterior of your home, ideally 48" above the ground. • QuestionAttn Ring: You have 3 names for models, this one=Ring *Battery* Doorbell, but you said it can also be hard-wired. Correct? If hard-wired into existing doorbell, will existing chime be automatically audible in home, not just in phone? (no Alexa here)

    Asked by zinya.

    • Answer Hi zinya. Thank you for taking the time to ask this question. Yes, the Ring Battery Doorbell has a built-in, rechargeable battery. It can also be hardwired to an existing doorbell system or transformer for continuous charging (8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz). To adjust your chime settings in the Ring app: Open the Ring app to the main dashboard. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access. Tap your device's Settings. Tap Device Settings. Tap In-home Chime Settings. Navigate to In-home Chime Settings in your Ring app. Tap Automatic Chime Detection. Allow the app to detect the in-home chime, then confirm your doorbell is wired to a chime if prompted. Tap Ring my In-home Chime to hear your in-home chime ring when the doorbell is pressed. Follow the in-app instructions and push the button on your Ring doorbell. If it does not ring correctly, select either My chime rang partially or My chime didn’t ring. The Ring app will adjust the device settings automatically and prompt you to test your doorbell again. If the app is unable to detect an in-home chime, it will redirect to the start of the automatic chime detection process. • QuestionAttn Ring: Answering my earlier Q, dmanley says lithium batteries, below 32 deg., stop delivering high current unless Ring has a BMS system built in to monitor temps. Does it? With BMS=smart battery pack, which requires smart battery charger? Pls Clarify.

    Asked by zinya.

    • Answer Hi zinya. Thank you for taking the time to ask this question. The Ring Battery Doorbell has a built-in, rechargeable battery. It can also be hardwired to an existing doorbell system or transformer for continuous charging (8-24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz). As cold weather sets in, lithium-ion batteries like those used in Ring doorbells and security cameras may experience several issues including trouble holding a charge, running out of power faster than normal, or losing functionality. Knowing at what temperature batteries will start to be impacted can help you take the necessary steps to keep your device working. When the temperature drops to: 36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in having to charge the unit more frequently. 32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery. -5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up. When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.
