QuestionWhat is the difference between this Sony and the $999 55" Samsung smart tv? Which would you recommend?

- Answer I spent several weeks researching 55" 4K Smart TVs orepping for Black Friday and the Sony XBR-810C was hands down the best TV available for under $1,000 (BB Black Friday price was $999). The main difference over the $999 55" Samsung (my #2 choice) is the PQ for watching movies in a darkened room and doing PC monitor duty. The Samsung 55" uses an IPS panel which gives wider viewing angles, but negatively impacts the ability to render true black. At best it gives a dark grey. Also, the Samsung cannot process 4K video from a PC. The Sony has neither of these issues and has a better overall PQ then the comparably priced Samsung.

QuestionVoice Command Acceptance on 810CWe purchased the 810C on the basis that it was the same as the 840C only without 3D capability. We really liked the ability of the the 840 to accept voice commands. After the 810C was delivered and installed we found that you need a special voice input remote that is apparently not included in the box in order to access this feature. Why the TV accepts voice input, but Sony does not give you the tool to input voice data makes no sense. The 810 definitely has the ability to accept voice commands because a microphone icon appears in the upper left corner which you can turn off and on and a search box prompts you to speak your choice. The manager at the store told us to call Sony in order to get the special remote you need to speak into. They recommended a website and model # RMF-ED004. In looking at this (see picture) it does not seem to be what we need to access voice commands and it's $100 plus tax and shipping! Can you tell me how to input voice commands on the 810C and verify that the remote pictured is the correct one? thanks

- Answer Here is the problem, Sony uses the same software on all of its new sets from top teir to budget(like yours) The 810C as much as you wont want to hear is part of the budget/economy line of Sony. With that said while the android software is the same it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the 850c and above have. That remote is one of them. The voice mode is part of the Android package by default because its the same android package like used on a phone or a tablet just made for TVs. Sony did not program any of it but did build a remote for it for the higher end sets. The Launcher that the TV uses is called "Android TV" and can be found on the google play store and used on any TV that has android and will have the same voice search feature as your sony even if the tv it was put on had not been intended for it. Think about new cars, a base model lets say doesn't have fog lights but instead has black caps in the bumper where they would go. The higher end trim package of the same car does have the fog lights. The base model will still usually have the wiring pinned up behind those caps for fog lights even though it did not come with them because they were using the same base model for every version.

- Answer This panel has a native re fresh rate of 120Hz anything higher than that is done with interpolation and back light manipulation no TV has a real 240Hz panel .

- Answer Front of the stand is 22 in wide. Back of the stand is 26 in wide. The stand is 10 in deep holds the TV 1.5 in off of the ground.

- Answer You don't need to turn off anything, the Sony 810C handles all of that automatically. Also, the picture quality on the Sony in any resolution below 4K is better than my other native 1080 TVs. Finally, you can manually change refresh rates from 60hz to 120hz in the advanced picture settings screen.

- Answer Yes, I have two altec Lansing speakers and a subwoofer plugged in and they work great. Go into audio settings to activate.

- Answer Yes you can. There's a green head phone jack on the left side of the tv right above the hdmi and usb ports. I have a pair of sennheiser wireless headphones that I use at night, or when gaming sometimes. My headphones have a battery powered base with an auxiliary chord with one end that plugs into the base, and the other end goes into the tv. Also, the tv comes with instructions

- Answer turn on" Live Color" to low ,med ,high or [off] also set the black adjust to [high ]and the adv contrast to [off] set black level at 50 and brightness and contrast to maximum I recently bought an XBR55x850C HDR ready set here at B.B but these settings work on [ all the Sonys . ] Aside from no HDR and 3D the Sony XBR X810C sets are most excellent and spitting hair difference to the next model up on regular bt709 content . Action Menu > picture settings > advanced picture setting > brightness menu

QuestionCan you use a wireless keyboard instead of the remote?On our present Samsung, we use a wireless keyboard to type in web site addresses when using the web browser. Can this be done with the Sony 810C? Reviews indicate difficulty using the remote for this purpose and we do not have Android phones. Lastly we are returning a Samsung JS7000 because of terrible flashlighting/clouding - any comments regarding this Sony??

- Answer yes I just paired it successfully with an apple keyboard, the keyboard functions normally on all apps i've tried to use it on the included remote isn't difficult to navigate, it just doesn't have a touch pad. the new apple tv remote types much faster because you can skip letters easier. Sony's RM-ADP057 is a move and click each button type of remote when navigating content.

- Answer yes the button is a black and white screen near above the number 2 on the keypad. pressing it during live TV a message appears that says 'available with HDMI only' changing to an HDMI bluray input, I hit the button again and the movie plays on the left side and the live TV basketball game was on the right side

QuestionScreen zoom mode keeps showing up in lower left cornerPicked up the tv on Monday and had it on my wall by Wednesday. Immediately noticed that without input from the remote control that the zoom mode text randomly shows up in the lower left corner of the screen. I moved the HDMI cable from my Directv Genie and from port 1 to port 2 and still the problem exists. I also took out the batteries from the remote control to see if the remote was the culprit and still the same problem. I'm about to return the television as defective.

- Answer There is no one best viewing mode (except for sports as the fast movement can cause picture trailing if not set for this. Turn off sports mode after broadcast for better picture quality). The Best mode is what is pleasant for you!!!! Not everyone has 20/20 vision and some people perceive light and colors differently especially with age. Also viewing preferences is effected by distance, angle, ambient light, quality of the broadcast (older analog shows are hard to adjust for). So you might have several different preferences based on if its a sports program. The quality of the broadcast (many cable channels are broadcast on a lower number in analog and a higher 3 digit channel in HD), if it is a streaming service (ex: netflix) if it is a bluray or dvd, or if you have a computer or gaming console connected. The tv allows different adjustments for each input connection and if you don't want to mess with readjusting for each type of broadcast you can find something in the middle that will wok for all. Just play around with it and see what pleases you the best.
