QuestionI currently have the Denon AVR-S540BT. Would this Sony AVR be considered a downgrade or an upgrade from my current AVR?

- Answer Funny you asked. This is my replacement for that model. It is a tad better. The Denon is easier to set up, I think the Sony sounds better. The Sony is 7.2, but I use as 5.1. The Denon lost few surround sounds after warranty expired.

- Answer Hi JG, To fully enjoy theater-like multi-channel surround sound, you need five speakers (two front speakers, a center speaker, and two surround speakers) and a subwoofer. The AV receiver doesn't have a zone function so you cannot connect outside speakers. If you want that function, we recommend STR-DN1080. Regards, David

QuestionHi, I have this receiver + a Klipsch Atmos Reference 5.1.4 speaker system. Is there a way to daisy chain/combine the front and top firing speakers into one speaker? That way I can still have 7 speakers, but add the 4 upfiring speakers as atmos channels?

- Answer Hi Timmy, Unfortunately, you cannot combine speakers. This manual describes the installation, connection, and setting procedures using the typical speaker systems indicated in the table below as examples. To learn about all speaker systems supported by this receiver, see “Selecting the speaker pattern”. QuestionWe have built in speakers for our smart home. We were told that the speakers can run via the smart home system if it is z-wave compatible, meaning we can tell Alexa to play music through the system. Would this receiver work for that?

- Answer Hi Smarthome, The AV receiver doesn't support alexa. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage. Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms. Regards, David

- Answer Hi mancave, Good question! Yes, you can connect your Roku to one of the 4 HDMI IN ports of this receiver and output the picture to your projector. If your TV/projector is compatible with eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) or ARC (AudioReturn Channel) function, connecting the optical digital audio cable is not necessary. - Answer Hi Alex, Depending on the power requirements of the country, you may need a transformer to make the AV receiver work since US models will require its 120 V AC, 60 Hz. Regards, David

- Answer Hello PQ1sound, Yes, the SSCS5 and SACS9 subwoofer will work with STRDH790 and XBR 55A9G. We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. These are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver. Hope this helps! David

QuestionHow is the hdr pass through on this avr. I’ve heard that’s it’s not that great. Colors are not represented well through this avr.. Any thoughts..or should I look elsewhere? Thanks in advance

With High Dynamic Range (HDR) signal pass-through, you can enjoy the incredible jump in contrast and brightness it brings, and the additional shadow detail and highlights further enhance picture detail and brings color to life. - Answer Hi Customer, You can connect 7 speakers and 2 subwoofer to this AV receiver. We recommend connecting speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms to 16 ohms. We also recommend using speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge. QuestionI just need basic 5.1 surround for: in wall front speakers and rear speakers, a center speaker and one powered subwoofer. That's 90% of what's required. There are also speakers in another room, I need all speakers working for party music. Possible??

- Answer While this device will give you great sound in 5.1 it does not have the ability to hook up a second pair of speakers. on some receivers, there are speakers A & B. This unit only has an output for one set.

QuestionThe connections on back show the option for Zone B on the speakers however your description says it it 1 zone. Can you verify that it is one or two zones (zone a/b)? I have speakers outside that I am wanting to connect but need a multi zone unit.

- Answer Hello Willy, Unfortunately, the STRDH790 doesn't support the zoning function. We would recommend stepping up to our STRDN1080 which allows for two separate audio zones. The STRDN1080 also offers an additional two HDMI connections, USB, wifi and Alexa/Google/Chromecast compatibility. - Answer It has the full surround setup of two front two rear plus center voice and sub woofer. Plus it can add two more speakers, as I have not added last two speakers can't say for sure can run two different devices at once in separate rooms, but don't believe it can.
