- Answer I wouldn't think so. I have an AT&T DVR, and I can't transfer anything off that box to external storage. If you could, I doubt the data would be usable. Some DVR boxes do allow for accessory add-on storage, but it's going to be heavily encrypted. I'm not familiar with the 'Hopper', but DRM is so crazy, and a PITA. YMMV...

QuestionCan I connect this drive to the eSata port on my Directv Genie 2?

- Answer No. Not directly. You need a USB to Esata converter to do this if the device supports connecting a hard drive but you will need a powered converter as it is powered over the USB cable. Best to just order the correct drive and cable rather than fumbling around with adapters trying to get it to work. The drive is factory formatted to NTFS so you may need to reformat the drive if the device doesn't support that. WD also makes these large drives in Esata look on the website for them.

QuestionWill this device work if I get an adapter to plus it into my hdmi port on my Xbox instead of the usb port to play videos? I have a 4tb but it will not play all the videos. Inhad to use two 2tb eaststore devices to play all videos through my Xbox one X.

- Answer I have an older IPad and the USB port is used for charging and connecting to the laptop. This drive needs power from the USB port to spin up and work. My manual says the port is used for charging and file transfers to the laptop and back but You can get it to work. You need two adapters that you can get from Bestbuy and the Ipad charger plugged in the wall or on an extension cord like I did. Just need the program installed from the app store to get it to work without needing the laptop. I found a video online that was helpful to make it all work. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KSHEY4mwMV0
