QuestionOn a standard Windows 10 HP desktop, will the drive automatically turn off after a preset number of minutes or turn off if PC enters sleep mode? Want to make sure it doesn't burn out from spinning all the time if only used say once per month for backups.

- Answer If you are using only once a month for back ups I recommend you disconnect any harddrive.

QuestionI have both a Dell lap top and a Mac desktop can i use this hard drive to back up both computers or will it only work with one due to the difference in a Dell over a Mac? I need to back up both devices.

- Answer Your WD Easystore can only be used to back up one or the other Operating System (Windows or Mac - AppleDOS or whatever they call their OS). However, you can check and see if the WD Easystore HDD can be Partitioned and Formatted for both Mac and Windows. Depending on your budget and how much data you need to backup, you should consider buying another WD Easystore and label one for Dell and other for Mac. The Easystore units are small and light weight. I am hoping one day that SSD's will have large storage capacity and become affordable as we can dream about a 10TB SSD for $100.

- Answer 1. It should not have any issues with your laptop. (USB is universal) 2. No it does not performed auto backup. You will need software for that. If would refer you to https://www.pcworld.com/article/3201971/software/best-windows-backup-software.html 3. No, this does not have cloud capabilities, WD myCloud would, it does not have USB abilities, only ethernet. It would recommend if you are needed cloud back-up then consider google drive 15gb free account. You can download the PC Backup and Sync from Google Drive, and it will back-up your files very similar to Dropbox but 15gb free rather than 2 gb. Generally most people do not have more than 15gb of files that are essential. The Backup and Sync PC application performed incremental syncs, so when a file is change, it is automatically sync to cloud immediately. This is the back options, some thing that do not need incremental sync, just take the time to perform once and forget about it.

- Answer It comes pre-formatted as NTFS. Option is ex-fat format. WD DISCOVERY exe application is already on the HDD. The WD 8TB EasyStore HDD's are 3.5 inch, 5,400 rpm with 256MB cache. However, if from China might get 128MB cache. Look at the bottom side of box carton where the Purchase Bar Code, Part Number is and hopefully it will say Made in Thailand as that is what you want. If it's made in China chances are you'll get a HDD with 128MB rather than 256MB cache.

- Answer Not with the Xbox 360, there is a 2TB max size. For an Xbox One (original, X, or S) it will work as long as you have it on the latest updates.

- Answer This just stores data. Whatever device you are wanting to use to grab this data must also be capable of reading and transcoding the data on the fly. This device does not provide "movies" per se. It only holds data. Data could be movies or anything else.

- Answer Yes, you can back up your Android phone, but I do it through my desktop computer. Can't comment on XP, but I supect it would work. I don't use the back-up software, I just copy files to it so I can access individual files if I want.

- Answer Yes but the read and write speed will not be as fast as a installed hard drive. Also does your board have 3.0 USB ports? It's bacwards compatible to 2.0 USB. But yes it will work.

- Answer The Easystore 8TB drive is in a standard USB 3.0 enclosure. There is no hardware encryption on the bridge board or anything proprietary that I could find, so it should work fine if the host device supports USB 3.0/3.1 or 2.0 interface and 8TB capacity. However, it is advisable to check with your device manufacturer regarding compatibility with external drives. The internals include a WD80EMAZ 5400RPM helium filled drive with the same firmware as the NAS drive (up to late 2017 the similar WD80EFX Red drive was used). Performance is typical for a 5400RPM drive, so you have to decide if that is suitable for the application.

- Answer Desktop or laptop - doesn't matter so long as you have a USB port that this drive can plug into. This drive is big, and not very portable.

- Answer You can't connect your iPhone directly to the drive, but you transfer your photos and videos to your computer and then to this drive.
