QuestionI bought this for use with MacBook Pro and Catalina. It was advertised as plug and play, Do I have to activate the WD software I see on the drive in order to use it as a time machine backup? I would rather not have to add anything more to my computer.

- Answer You do not have to activate the WD software to use it as a Time Machine storage. In fact, I would recommend not activating the WD app as it will not be used, but often inserts itself on boot-up.

In order to use this drive on your windowsOS you have to reformat this drive into the compatible file system such as NTFS or EXFAT. - Answer Hi Ohiosid, There could be a few reasons why the drive is not showing up in Finder, or the Mac Desktop. QuestionHow does this one divers from the WD My Passport USB 3.0 external drive that work for both MAC/PC?

- Answer There's really only one difference between the two, which is how the drive is formatted coming out of the box. The one that works with both comes formatted in exFat, which works for both OS's. The one that is "for Mac" comes formatted in Mac OSX Journaled, which PC's can't read. That said, when I was looking, it was the cheaper option, so I got it, and then just had my computer reformat the drive to exFat. It's worked perfectly with both my Mac and PC since then.
