Just installed this Cync smart dimmer switch yesterday. It took me about 30 minutes to complete the job. I'm no electrician, but the directions were easy to understand. First thing was cutting the power of at the circuit breaker. Found the load wire and marked it with the labels that came with the switch. Then the load wire, ground wire, and the common wire. Once the wires were labeled I then replaced the old dimmer switch with this smart switch. Checked all the connections and fastened it to the wall. Replace the cover and then turned the circuit breaker back on. To my surprise the blue light was flashing. At that point I connected the WiFi in the Google Home app. Now the light on the switch is white indicating it's powered up. Also in the Cync app you can turn it off. Also there is an option you could click on that will turn the light red flashing light if you lose Wi-Fi. The two other switches will be swapped out in the near future. They will control the outside light. Two thumbs up for this switch!

Great Dimmer Switch for GE Bulbs

I've have 2 C by GE bulbs in my bedroom for a little while. I can adjust their brightness, change the color temp, and turn them on and off without getting out of bed. The downside to all of that is it goes away as soon as you flip the actual light switch off. This dimmer switch solved that issue for me.
Installation was pretty straightforward, though the backside of the switch was a lot bigger than the standard light switch I was replacing. I had to get creative pushing the wires around, but I did get it to fit (though it was a bit snug).
Setup through the app was also pretty simple. It found the switch automatically and guided me through the setup. I was able to select my 2 GE bulbs and group everything into a single entity in the app. The switch can also control regular dimmable and non-dimmable bulbs.
After I got everything setup I didn't have any issues at all. I can use my light switch now and still control my lights from my phone or through Google Assistant. The one thing I do wish I could control is the brightness of the light on the switch itself - it's a bit bright when the room is completely dark. It can be turned off in the app, but I wish I could just dim it a little bit. Other than that I have no complaints about this switch and would recommend it especially if you're going to pair it with C by GE bulbs.

This is a great product and works as intended by Google and by switch. Had a problem with install call c by GE switch hotline they stayed on the phone me for an hour and a half because my wiring was wrong in the wall. We got it working I’m totally amazed with the customer service I received . Also if you’re replacing a three-way switch which is operated with two switches on either side of the wall you need 2 switches .

I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!

0 stars worthy. The Cync line of products are the crappiest on the market and I would stay clear, I mean galaxies, away. I’ve never had so much difficulty with switches in my entire adult life until Cync.
One positive it’s easy to install. That’s where it ends.
Quick backstory on how I got here…My initial introduction with Cync was a few years ago when I purchased one “full color” bulb to see how they compared to my Sengled bulbs that I loved. Simply bc the store with the red circle had them on 70% clearance. So what was the harm. Well I disliked it from the beginning and should have taken that as a sign to leave Cync alone. The bulb worked but the light output 800lm and colors available were very bleak. The app was extremely lackluster and offered limited capabilities. I removed the bulb, forgot it in my trunk beyond return date and then just kept it in a drawer for a few years until recently. Now back to the switches…
I just remodeled my son’s room and gave him an awesome space any kid would dream of. One of the things he really wanted on his wishlist was a switch by his bed to turn off the lights. After searching through the options on Amazon for universal wire free light switch remotes, and not liking the designs. I stumbled across the entire suite of Cync switches on clearance at the blue big box hardware store back in November. Much better than the clearance price here on BB. Guess what, along with wired switches, they had a wire free “can be placed anywhere” switch. Well mom delivered, so I thought. I purchased all I could to replace my entire house to the same switch for multiple reasons. For example: appearance, one app (I had hoped they improved by now), price to replace all switches to smart, the ability for everyone to have a wire free switch added near their bed or nightstand, etc. What a mistake.
I installed the wired switch in my son’s room. Through the app I identified the correct bulbs (dimmable, not Cync bulbs) everything seemed fine until minutes later I thought I was in a nightclub when they begin to tell you it’s time to go home. The lights wouldn’t stop flickering on and off, off and on. Super fast and sometimes slow. One light was having a seizure different than the others. It wasn’t human error. I am a professional DIY’er and have been for over 12 years, I’m a woodworker and I’ve touched and redone every room in this house and have replaced all of the fixtures, light switches and have even added new outlets and light boxes in my home countless of times. So I’m not new or afraid of changing out something this simple when it comes to electrical. This is not a hire out job. The light fixture I didn’t change in this remodel. The lightbulbs I didn’t change. The only source, problem and new addition was the switch.
I gave up that evening and kept it off until I came back to the project the following day. It continued to go on and off randomly but slowed down to where it may happen every few days to now once or twice a week. It disconnects continuously, randomly. The red circle randomly at any given time is stressful. Not being home and my son’s room camera going off to alert activity is scary. When looking at footage all you see is the light randomly going on and then minutes later and even 30+ mins later going off.
I decided to do some internet digging and found that this is a very common issue that they have had with their switches. They’ve had complaints for years and have not fixed it at all just false promises to look into the issue. Blah blah blah. It constantly loses connection. We have TP-Link - Deco BE16000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 7 System that covers a range of 9600sq ft. Our signals are top notch. Nothing else drops out or loses connection or unstable except these switches.
It sucks bc the best thing was the wire free switch. That worked flawlessly. Maybe they should reconsider being a part of the wired light switch game and work solely on universal wire free options. It’s sad bc GE has a wonderful reputation and their other product lineups are great but whomever they purchased Cync products from they need to let go and move on. If they have their own internal team in development for this product they should just shut it down asap. No wonder every store and online platform has them on clearance in some capacity for some time.
But foolish me it doesn’t end there. It’s now January, I took back all but two wired switches and kept one wire free switch bc I said ehh maybe it was a fluke, but I won’t be installing these into the entire house. I’m redoing my daughter’s room next. So the kids can have the ability to use the wire free switch. Her room has two separate lights, switches are side by side, they operate individually and don’t require a 3-pole switch. I installed the two switches into her room yesterday and the moment the lights were on they began flipping out. It’s not a fluke. As one who doesn’t give up easily. I said, “hey maybe if I use their dedicated bulbs it’ll fix the issue”. I purchased a 4pk of their “not so great” 800lm full color Cync bulbs, also currently on clearance at the big blue box store and has been for months. Maybe that’ll keep them in order. Hahaha, NOT! I replaced all 3 in my son’s room, even using the one bulb I mentioned earlier that was purchased a few years ago (same design, same numbers, same box as the new ones, means no internal updates) and immediately I almost had a seizure. It was even worse. I tried to operate them through the app and guess what, it spazzed… red and then blank and red and blank within milliseconds. It was inoperable. I had to reset to no avail the lights were even worse. I finally was able to change the bulb type in app. No success. Now the switch under his room in the app doesn’t even appear. I decided then I AM DONE. I AM RIPPING THEM OUT! They are outta here TODAY. I will NEVER look at another Cync product again. Not even if they paid me in gold. That’s how bad I absolutely detest this line of products, if the length of this review wasn’t an indicator from the beginning.
BB has Tp-link Tapo switches currently on sale I picked up 4 at one location, that’s all they had, and I can’t wait for BB to open today so I can hit up another location for the rest for my home. I installed two yesterday and geez night and day. Do yourselves a favor and try those. Currently on sale for $14. The app is also great, easy to use, easy to install, and fabulous for automation as they work with Matter and other smart assistant platforms. Ohhh and the best part they dont disconnect therefore making the lights cause the onset of medical emergencies and mental breakdowns. Im actually replacing all of our WeMo light switches and several old fashioned non smart flip switches. WeMo is/was great but unfortunately it seems that I waited too long (years) to purchase the remainder I needed for my home as they are no longer sold at BB or any other retailer. So Tapo seems to be a great alternative already and the reason to why I’m buying them all at once, so I don’t have a repeat situation.
ATP, I’m not interested to read anything that GE Cync review customer service team has to write under my review. I would rather the team assigned to my negative review not even waste their finger strength.
My only suggestion is that GE removes Cync from their lineup. They clearly aren’t investing money there. Cync has been on clearance at every retailer for a while and I should’ve known something wasn’t right when the bays are full of product and no one but myself jumped onto the amazing clearance prices. It’s that awful that even a good deal isn’t bringing the boys to the yard. I’m reviewing on BB because this is where I typically buy all of my smart devices for my home, and I need people to know to look elsewhere when it comes to Cync. Don’t do it.
If you still aren’t clear on where I stand…
*I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!*
Pics are lights flickering in real time. BB should allow short video.

Not too thrilled with the app and some of the funtionality but the product does work. Excellent value at the sale price, however at the full price, I would continue tp build out on my Lutron system. If you add this dimmer to a bedroom you'll find yourself wishing you could dim the light on the switch as well.

Does not reconnect with Google on it's own

I bought three of these for my house after they were given credit by Google and working with the Google Assistant with no hub required.
Install was easy, just hook up the wires. It took a couple of tries to get the Google Home app to sync with the CbyGE service. Once installed, they seemed to work just fine with commands and routines.
BUT, if you lose power to the house, or reboot the router, then they stop working and give you a red ring light. They do not auto-reconnect to Google Home. You have to pull the clip on the bottom of the switch, and hope they connect. The light will go back to white, but most of the time, commands will not work, or routines will not work. But then one day, it all works just fine. Until the next power blip or router reboot.
I have called their support, and they are helpful, but the way the CbyGE works with Google, is not completely seamless and working all the time.
There are times that the nighttime routine will work, and turn off the lights. But a minute later if you ask the Google Assistant to turn them on or off, Google will say it can't find them and I need to reconnect them in the Google Home app. It is frustrating.
I have tried to delete and add them from the Google Home App, I have done a hard reset on the switches, and I still get the same problems.
If they would just auto-reconnect to Google, and have no involvement from me to reconnect, then I would give these a 5 star rating.

Googlefied, Thank you for your review of the C by GE dimmer switch and the Google Home device. Many times when there is a power outage, the first step would be to power-cycle the Google Home device as well as the C by GE Switch (please contact support for further instruction on power-cycling the wired switch). Hopefully a power outage is not something that you are troubled with often, but if you ever have any issues our Support Team is there to help. After looking at multiple options, we chose the C by GE paddles and dimmers. Easy set up on single switch rooms, had some challenges with our three and four way switches. First it's important to know you need to have all C by GE switches for the room that is a three or four way. Then if you only want one dimmer, you need to put it at the switch that sends the power to the light (load switch) if you want the dimmer somewhere else, buy multiple dimmers. Connects easily to Alexa. We have had them installed for a couple weeks and they function great.
My one complaint is that you have to add wifi login details to each switch. I wish it was one parent wifi connection that spanned across the 15 switches we installed so it added a bit of time for installation.

Very convenient once they are set up. I had a issue at first getting them to connect to my WiFi. I contacted tech supporter through GE, I was really impressed on how thorough they were, and the time they took to help me with my issue. It turned out my dual band router needed to be set to 2.4g in order to set up the switches. By the time I was off the phone the support agent helped me to get all my switches working. Amazing customer service! They work great with non dimming bulbs as well. I installed in kitchen lights, and master bathroom. I even hooked one up to my garbage disposal because it’s in a hard to reach spot, now I can control it with my google assist. Hey google dim my garbage disposal! JK anyway everything works, and it’s pretty cool to have a smart garbage disposal

I like the switches, but the app is pretty buggy. Had to move switches from one room to another to get them working. Meanwhile, I thought it was my wiring the entire time. The app / switches also cannot detect my wifi network. So it makes me attempt 3 connections before it lets me continue. After that, the it only sometimes finds/connects to the switch via bluetooth/wifi.

I Recently Started Building my Smart Home. I'm glad to say I made the right choice with this switch. It was Pricer when I first got it but with the sales that ran Recently, I bought the rest that I needed and having a smart home is a game-changer. I love the simplicity of it and it was extremely easy to set-up. considering I have no electrical experience the process took about 20 minutes but like I said no electrical experience at all!! *Gasp* So I totally recommend also I'm becoming an electrician now. that's how disillusioned I am about how simple it can be.

Having tried several brands before I was hesitant purchasing these knowing taking them back out would take some time and effort. Was I happy to see that they turned out to be exactly what we've been looking for. Look great, work every single time once set up and link with just about any service except Apple's home kit. Very reliable, stable and straightforward. Don't forget to turn the power off and verify its actually off since you'll be hunting down the neutral wire for these and that's usually buried in the back of the box.

Switches work well, app could use refinement

I purchased two regular GE smart paddle switches (93105075) and this dimmer switch (48717) to be used with incandescent or dimmable LED bulbs from GE. They all work great as expected before you add them to the App and reasonably well after once you figure out how they were intended to be used together.
My gripes with the app are,
1) it's a bit flaky. As another reviewer stated, sometimes you open the app and it shows the light is off even though the light is on. It may help to switch the light off and then on again, restart the app, or restart your entire phone. Similar things happen when using a Scene. I had to restart my phone (Pixel 5, Android 12) for it to function as expected.
2) It's not intuitive. I get the sense that the app is designed for a specific scenario, which is 1 controlling device per room (the switch) to control multiple bulbs. But when you have more than one switch in the room, all switches control everything in the room, including other switches, which is chaotic. I thought I had an electrical wiring problem. I have a 3-gang box in the entry way, each with a different GE Cync smart switch. If I add all three devices to the same room, because they are in the same room, then I expect to be able to control them individually in the app, and as a group in the app, since a room is a group, but what I didn't expect is that if I turn on one of the switches physically, it turns on the other switches. In other words, when I use an individual switch physically, it controls the group, which I don't want. The solution was to assign each switch a different room, which sort of makes sense since the lights they control are in different "rooms" (interior entry way, porch light, and garage exterior).
3) bugginess. As I mentioned I assigned each switch to a different room. However, if I try to create a group for them so I can control them all at once, a) the dimmer switch says groups are not available without a firmware update, when I click update firmware it tells me the firmware is up to date, b) then I go to the first regular Cync switch and I can create a custom group and add the switch to it, but c) when I go to the second regular Cync switch to add it to a group, the group I just created is not there. Ultimately I ended up creating a Scene, and adding three devices so they can be controlled together.
4) Scenes. These work pretty well to control devices in multiple rooms. The UI took a minute to get used to, (TP link has much better UI for their app) but the main gripe is that you can't schedule a scene to start at sunset or sunrise, only specific times.

Thank you Ben, for this in-depth review. We are thrilled to see that you are enjoying your Cync Smart Switches and appreciate this valuable feedback! Your thoughts have been passed along to our Development Team for review. In regards to your experience with our switches controlling all others in the same 'Room', this is expected behavior. You do not have to assign your Switches to different 'Rooms' to remedy this. Within each 'Room', you can create 'Groups'. For example, You can assign a closet switch in the 'Master Bedroom' to a 'Closet Group'. The device will remain in the 'Master Bedroom' room, but will not be associated with other switches in the same room. To place a device in its own 'Group' within a 'Room', simply select 'Settings' on the home page of the Cync App, 'Rooms and Devices', tap the Room the desired switch is in, 'View Devices' and 'Edit This Switch'. At the very bottom of the editing page, you will see a 'Groups' option; here, you will create a group for the switch to reside. In reference to your input regarding our Scenes/ Schedules feature we are excited to announce that this has been addressed! We have recently released an update for the app that includes a 'Sunrise/ Sunset' feature under the 'Routines' tab that you will see on the top right of the Cync app home page. Thanks to customers like yourself, we are able to make great improvements. We would be more than happy to help you navigate through these features and can be reached at 1-844-302-2943. -Cync Support

Great Dimmer. The advantage of this is that you can always remotely control your lights. You do not have to worry about someone turning off the switch. You can use most any dimmable bulb. If you know basic switch wiring it is easy to install. You can also install for 3 way switch, but you need two of the same switches which is pricy.

I bought this switch because i had great success woth their lights. I wired this switch in to control 4 canless LED lights on my basement. The instal went fine, and I had no issue connecting them to my wifi and the app. That's when thing got weird. Every time I open the app, it shows the lights are off regardless if they are on or off. Controlling them by the app works fine. More oftebn than not, when i turn the lights off, they will randomly turm back on atbtheir dimmest setting. I haven't fogured out a rhyme or reason for this. At first I thought it may be because the switch was on my IoT network, but it still happened after i switched it to my regular network. I went ahead and bought another brand to see if I would have any better luck.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and sorry it occurred. What we recommend is checking the bulb type that you have set in your switches settings in the Cync app. Ensure that it is set to the proper type for your bulbs. If your bulbs are experiencing issues we recommend resetting them by using these steps: Start with the light off for at least 5 seconds. Turn on for 8 seconds. Turn off for 2 seconds. Repeat this process 5 more times, or until the light bulb flashes. If this issue persists please contact us at 1-844-302-2943. -Cync Support Team
