Best Thermostat

This is the best thermostat on the market (smart or otherwise). Nest may get more exposure but ecobee is far and away the better of the two. It is HomeKit compatible, works with Alexa, and has an exceptional number of settings allowing for granular control. The ecobee app is extremely easy to use (and you should have it for installation and setup but I don’t think it’s required). It’s got a better interface on tablets (iPads, etc.) than on phones. It’s extremely easy to install if you do use the app - it walks you through everything and the package contains wire labels should a repair or replacement be necessary. It took me about 30 minutes total to install both of ours (2 zone system). A word of warning about self-installation - while it’s very simple for those who are even remotely handy, it COULD VOID THE WARRANTY if the thermostat is not installed by a HVAC professional.
We have had our ecobee 3 lites (to which we’ve added 8 room/motion sensors) for about a year now and our electric bill dropped by about 27%. And that’s just because we set up a schedule for Home, Away, and Sleep. We keep the thermostat on Auto and it stays in the 68-72 degrees F range. We occasionally adjust the thermostat by a degree or two if needed - it will give you 4 options for when to revert back to previous settings:
1. 2 hours from “now”
2. 4 hours from “now”
3. When I leave
4. When I change it
So if you’re the type of person who doesn’t like getting out of the shower and stepping into a cold bathroom, you can bump it up a degree or so right when you wake up.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this thermostat. We looked at Nest, ecobee, and Honeywell thermostats and I’m very glad that we made the choice that we did. I have already got my parents to switch theirs out to the same thermostat. You will not be disappointed with any of the ecobee thermostats.

Wanted to try a smart thermostat but was hesitant to adapt. A co-worker has one of these and he convinced me to try it. Well after about a year I can say I love this! I was able to catch it on sale, plus the gas company was giving $75 instant rebates so I got this for under $75. Install/setup was a breeze. After that it's even easier! It connected right to my Google mini, so I can use voice commands to set the temp. It has all kinds of features. You can set alarms for when the temps get too hot/cold, reminders for when to change the furnace filter, shows the weather. You can also set it so it will turn on the a/c or heat for those times of the year when you may need both to run. Anyway with over 1200 reviews there's not much I can really add. I'll just say that this is a no brainer.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I no longer had a nest. I really wanted a smart thermostat, but didn't want to shell out for the nest again. This was one of the cheaper options and I've been very pleased.
It does everything required, connects to Alexa and IFTTT, looks great, and is an easy install. The app is easy to use after some exploring. Would recommend

Bought this for my parents. Easy to install and easy for them to use. I set it all up, with a schedule, but they can change it to a temporary setting anytime they want. It works with Alexa and you can control it with your phone. Very simple and nice thermostat.

2nd one of these, both work great and easily managed from my smartphone. After thoroughly researching and comparing this again to the Nest for a second purchase, I again went with the Ecobee in new home. Feature set better fit my needs, as I really just want to tell my thermostat to hold temp at my preset set day/times, and not worry about adjusting it so that it learns my comfort settings. I went again with the Ecobee3 lite as I still have some real privacy and security concerns with Alexa. I use Ecobee 3 lite for a weekend house as well, allowing me to monitor and receive alerts while not there, but really love the fact that I can one button adjust to AT HOME setting and have the home comfortably heated or cooled before I get there.

Nice upgrade from the standard thermostat. Sleek and easy to use. Convenient that it can be controlled and viewed from phone app. My next step is considering to buy additional room sensors for a more accurate whole house temperature reading.

After installing an Ecobee Premium in my main house, I have a small guest cottage that has it’s own HVAC system. After the success I had with the Premium, I decided to get the Ecobee lite for the cottage.
Installation went well, being an AC/Heat Pump system, I had to guess on one of the wires. The Ecobee app told me how to check the setting - turn on heat and if cold air comes out, change the setting (reverser for heat pump). I did that, It was incorrect but going into the settings on the Ecobee Lite walked me through the changes easily!
It works fine. The only minor issue - since it is “lite” there is no sensor. I ended up purchasing a pair of sensors and using 1 in the cottage to sense when we go into the cottage.
Other than that, works great, easy to install.

Smart thermostats are one of the major additions to smart homes that can actually save you money. While there is another brand that seems to be more popular, I prefer one that works with Apple HomeKit and meets their privacy standards.
The installation instructions are very clear, even exceptionally so. If you’re comfortable working on projects like this, it is about a as difficult, though a bit longer than, as installing a light switch.
Once installed, it has worked flawlessly.
Note that if you have multiple thermostats you will need multiple ecobees. You cannot use the multi zone features as a substitute for extra thermostats.

I was going to purchase Nest thermostat, as all my other family members had them in their homes and really liked them. After doing some research, I thought the ecobee had more features and would be better to integrate with Apple HomeKit. Super easy to install and set up. HomeKit connection works great and super simple to control climate from your phone wherever you are, set automations, etc. Already noticed significant savings on our electric bills since we installed. Get this instead of the Nest, especially if you are looking to build out a smart home system with everything compatible with Apple HomeKit.

This is the perfect choice when switching to a smart thermostat. Ecobee took care of everything required for install and set-up. I needed to use the 4 wire to 5 wire conversion kit (included) and even that was so simple to install. The video ecobee includes (part of the app) made changing from my "dumb" thermostat to the smart one a breeze. I love how this thermostat learns to become even more efficient over time and it was very easy to integrate with my home wifi as well as Alexa. It even has a weather forecast right on the screen. I was able to purchase this thermostat and a two pack of remote sensors for almost $100 less than just a competing thermostat by itself.

Nest vs Exobee

Bought a house that had a nest. Thought I would give it a try having used Ecobee’s at 2 other houses. Hated the Nest. It does not allow manual programming. It tells you what your temperature scheduling is going to be regardless if it works for you or not - you cannot override Nest’s schedule to manual mode. So after a week wrestling with the Nest - I replaced it with an Ecobee. So happy to have the Nest gone. The Exobee is Hands down so much better, temperature efficient, and user friendly. I have 2 houses with Ecobees and I love them! Highly recommend!!!!!

Love this thermostat. It can set reminders to change filters or do other scheduled maintenance. Best part is the ability to change the temperature from your phone, or by telling an Alexa to change it. It also displays a mini weather forecast on the screen for your area. Easy slider temp change on the front. It can be used as a learning thermostat, it can change the temp when you're on your way home or when you leave; but it is perfectly fine without it. I paired it with the optional room sensors to give me a more balanced temperature throughout my home.

The Ecobee looks great, is very easy to use, and works well. The functions and settings are very straight-forward. The one thing that I will note is that whereas the Lite version has a Temperature Sensor built in to the thermostat, this sensor is NOT an occupancy sensor so that the Smart Home/Away functions will not work unless Room Sensors are purchased separately! I subsequently bought a 2-pack of Room Sensors and they do a good job controlling the temp as well as the Smart Home/Away. I have contacted Ecobee customer service and couple of times and they have been very responsive,
