I was looking at smart thermostat's for a while but didn't like something about all that I was looking at. Then I came across the ecobee 3. What a amazing piece of hardware. The interface is supper easy to use. It looks very elagent on the wall. The app for it is exactly the same as the unit so you don't have to learn two different interfaces. Setup was a breeze. I think the best part about it has to be the remote sensor and the occupancy sensor on it. We work a rotating shift that is all over the place so a set schedule would be impossible to enter. With the occupancy sensor when we leave it drops the temp to what we set then as soon as we walk in the the temp starts to come back up. Simply amazing how well that works. We have a 2 story house and the upstairs was always colder. Now we have the remote sensor placed up there in a hallway and have the thermostat average the two units. Now it's always comfortable on both floors. At first I was worried it would be to hot on the mail floor while trying to keep the 2nd floor warmer but somehow it works flawlessly. We will be adding more sensor in the future which is an amazing option that no other smart thermostats had. We did have 1 problem with it that was easy fixed with a quick search on ecobee's website. The remote sensor would loose communication with the main unit. All we had to do was rest the remote (remove battery for 2 min) and its been working perfectly ever sence.

First ecobee3 I bought was lemon, did not work from beginning. I call customer service and they told me to swap with another one. Replacement works flawlessly. It has functions regular thermostat plus wireless functionality. App works great, can't complain. After rebates from local electric and gas companies it cost me 75$ with tax included. I did installation myself, everything went smoothly. I love it so far.

I got everything setup in about an hour. I had to add the power switcher to my wiring in the furnace (included with the Ecobee), to get everything running properly with the wire design in my home. Once you get that setup, the next step is swapping out the old with the new. Make sure you use the provided flags to mark the wires as you remove them form the old thermostat. Then you just mount the back panel and connect the wires to the correct terminals.Then mount the Ecobee to the back panel on your wall. The Ecobee starts up and asks questions about the setup of your HVAC system. It is just a few settings to adjust and you are ready to go. Takes a little time for the software to get ready to go once you set the parameters. Then you just add the Sensor to the room you are in most often and everything is ready. Now comes the fun stuff… Crazy easy to setup and use the Ecobee app on the iPhone. You can control everything from anywhere with your mobile device. (props for whomever decided to make a vacation feature to control light use when you are out of town). If you have an Amazon Echo, you are in luck! You can also adjust your HVAC by speaking the commands out loud! All in all I am very happy with the ease of installation and the features and benefits of this thermostat.

I love my new Ecobee! It not only has saved me money but It was great to install with simple instructions and support to reach out to should I run in to any issues. Once it was all connected it was perfect!!! I cannot wait to get more sensors for the rest of my space to make sure I maximize the Ecobee!! The best part is that it is paired with my Apple products and Amazon's Echo! I would absolutely recommend this product!! :)

I bought 4 Ecobee3's for my 4 story town house and they were easy to install and are working well.

I reviewed several different programmable thermostats before selecting the EcoBee 3. The ability to use remotely using my phone was a primary factor. I already see a savings of over $5/month on my electric bill. Love it.

My thermostat has 7 wires so I was nervous about getting the correct and compatible smart thermostat. I went to Best Buy and Aaron helped me pick this one out. I wanted it to work with SmartThings and Echo as well. I had the Geek Squad do the install and I am so happy with Ecobee3. It easily hooked up with SmartThings on my phone and it's really easy to control. I know I made the right decision and I couldn't be happier.

Best smart Thermostat on the market. I have it currently working in conjunction with my Carrier Infinity controller Thermostat (the Ecobee can turn on the Carrier's fan to circulate air (smart home zone system with Keen Home Zigbee Vents)

I really love this thermostat. Allows for a comfortable temp with less hassle. Once you get it programmed to your preferred high an low temps it pretty much takes it from there.

Bought this "nest killer" because of the Apple HomeKit integration, but it offers so much more! Love that I can use additional room sensors to adjust the average home temperature. Also, the ecobee app for iPhone is wonderful!

I have a nest in another house. Seem to like it a bit better than this. This took a minute to get used to. Recommend to get the app and set up schedule to your preference, bit hard on the base. After getting used to this over nest, seem to like it alright.

This will not work with Carrier or Bryant systems which means this does not work with 95% of systems as they advertise. Service: My ecobee3 error message was that it was wired wrong. It was wired exactly like the manual stated. It took over 2 hours hold time waiting for a customer service agent by phone. The agent was pleasant, but did not have information on how to hook up to Bryant systems. 1/2 hour on hold and after emailing images of the control board he got back to me with suggested wire hook up. He asked me to try the new wire hookup and he would call me back in 15 minutes. He never called back and the suggested wire hook up did not work. Reluctant to wait another 2 hours for an agent by phone, I ran a C wire and removed the PEK module they send with the ecobee3 as a hack to provide power to the ecobee3 for 4-wire systems. I found the PEK does not work. Running a C wire was able to get the ecobee3 to power up without the wiring error message, However it only operated the fan. It will not turn on the heat or AC. I tried several wire configurations to the terminal strip on the Bryant control board but could not get the heat to come on. Replaced ecobee with original simple thermostat and now everything works fine. 1 star customer service for long wait times and lack of knowledge by staff. 1 star for misleading advertising that ecobee works with 95% of systems when it does not work with two of the most common systems. 1 star because they never returned email messages from their contact page. I am returning the device. Don't waste your money.

Unhappy that I am going to have to purchase a new Apple TV so I can control it when I travel

Absolutely amazing! I've had both the Ecobee (Generation 1 and now Generation 2) the Nest (Generation 2, before the Generation 3 was out) and I "liked it" but always felt it was missing something - that something was the remote sensors. The remote sensors of the unit are amazing for those of us with a room or two that may be outside of the temperature spread acceptable in our eyes. The touch screen has been perfect so I'm not sure where people were complaining about that one. The ONLY potential drawback that you may have (like the issue I had) was the the blue common wire must be hooked up - an easy trip down to my basement and a screw undone/done later it was all done - if you don't have the terminal on your unit they even go so far as to include a power splitter for those without access to the unit and such. As far as home automation goes - the link between it and my Wink hub are amazing and work perfectly (in fact one of the few things that I've seen Wink do better than normal).

I bought the ecobee for my parents to replace an outdated thermostat that was due for an upgrade. It's been a solid thermostat as they can use with their Amazon echo dot if they wanted to. We had it professionally installed to be on the safe side. After it was installed, it was pretty straight forward to set it up to the wifi and set up a schedule for it to turn on and off. I also like being able to control the temperature away from home. Also, you can set the thermostat screen to come on as it senses movement, no need for a hallway light to be turned on. I have never had any problems with it whatsoever. It's also a lot cheaper than a nest thermostat, I would definitely recommend this thermostat.

I love my new Ecobee3 w/ Homekit. A few of the highlights that I found myself liking more than I thought I would. #1 Mobility. I can control the device from anywhere. We would often turn our temp up while we were away but dreaded coming home to a stuffy hot house.. Now when we are about an hour from home I can tell the device we are home and the house is pleasant when we arrive. Also the scheduling is great. We had a programable thermostat prior but it never seemed to work right. Now we have a sleep schedule so we no longer have to manual adjust before we go to bed. And if we get hot or cold we can grab our phone and make a change. No need to go downstairs to change it. #3 the online data. I am a data nerd and love that I can log on and see when my HVAC is on/off. I can look at what it is actually doing throughout the day/week/month. Our home is about 4200 sq ft so I purchased the additional sensors. We have a sensor in our living room, Playroom, Upstairs Master, and our thermostat is in the Fireplace room. The way the unit uses the sensor of the occupied rooms has made our home overall more comfortable. It is too early to tell the cost savings but the device alone is worth the price even if we do not see cost savings -though I fully expect to see those too. An additional benefit that I wasn't expecting was that it also allowed me to hook up my Humidifier control to it. This was a great bonus and really clean up the look of our wall where we had 2 big white boxes to control our Humidifier and Hvac system

I'll start by saying that I've only had it running for a day or so at this point, but it's working well so far. I went with this over the Nest due to the fact that my thermostat is in a lightly used room. I wanted the ability to have proximity and temp in other rooms (wife works at home in office). It works great in that regard. I have a total of 3 external sensors so far. I initially connected it to HomeKit, but it forces you to turn off Auto so I quickly disabled it as I didn't see any value (yet). It was relatively easy to hook up, if you have a connected C wire. I thought mine was, but it wasn't. It was simple to hook up on the furnace (power off!!). From there, the setup was a piece of cake. One note, ecobee shipped remote sensors that were incorrectly assembled. This resulted in the occupancy sensor not working. The fix is easy (pop off the face plate and rotate it so the sensor is lined up with the window). If the serial number sticker on the back isn't on the same edge as the window, it's assembled wrong.

Just installed the ecobee3 10/20/2015. Been doing a lot of receach on smart thermostats (online) for a few months. I had a hunter 44550 for years worked good but I wanted to be able to change setting on the go and have the system know when I was home or not. I wanted to heat our family room better with out buying heaters. And cool the upstairs rooms with out freezing us out in the faimly room. When I seen the remote sensors in ecobee3 I fell in love. Not to mention Comed Electric company gave me $100 and Nicor Gas gave me $20 rebates. Our thermostat is located in the stair hallway leading up yo the Third floor. We spend most of our time down in the family room located on ground level. It's always cool down there so I figured with the remote sensor this will fix that problem.

As a former tech for a large temperature controls company, I must say that programmable thermostats have come a long way! Very easy to install and program. Great looking on the wall, and the phone app works great. We have a variable occupancy schedule that typical programmable units could not accommodate. This one can. I like the numerous set point options and very intuitive programming. The motion detector works great and I have experienced setback savings when away for hours while in occupancy mode. The temperature control is great. Love the fan cycling options. Top notch device, worth the money.
